When I put an effect on return 1, then turn the send up on that track, there is a terrible flange loop effect, why is that?

The 4 Return slots are global effects. The Sends on each track or pad is routed to these 4 Return slots.

Add a Reverb or any effect to these 4 Return slots. Then each pad or track have 4 send knobs that will route your pads or tracks to these effects.

What do you mean by 'sounding bad'? What sound did you expect when routing pads or tracks to this plugin?

No, it doesnt matter what plug I insert on the return, it always has a phase to it, u know like when you have a loop back in a signal chain?

I'll investigate when my wife is driving. I taking my first trip with my Studio and Mac Book :).

Can you post a video or audio clip to what you are hearing?

Is there a wet/dry balance control on the plugin?

If so, set it to 100% wet.

When you use effects in a send/return setup, you generally run the effects at 100% wet.

In that situation, you do not want to mix any of the dry signal with the effect, inside the effect, you want to send 100% effect from the effect processor to the effects return. You use the effects return level to balance the 100% wet effects signal against the dry signal (which should still be running through the channel you sent it from to the output).

If you have a dry signal continuing through the channel that it is sent from, as well as the dry signal being mixed with the effect, within the effect and then returned, depending on how the mixer is designed, it could quite possibly cause a flange/phase type effect as the two dry signals (one slightly delayed after going to the effect and back) are mixed back together at the effects return.

This is basic audio fundamentals.

Or, it could be something totally unrelated, I really don't know.

Wet/Dry param applies to most (if not all) of the Ren/Studio's Internal FXs.

Yep, I thought I was the only one that got the weird flanging when using the sends. I have had this since 1.1--surprised that no one else mentioned this since I reported it a while ago.

Anyway, I have refrained from using the sends.

Do you get the same results when using Sends to Reverbs?

Whether it is your issue or not, note that some effects are suited for insert effects (Dynamics such as EQs, Limiters, etc) and some better suited for send effects (Ex., Reverbs, Delays).

I dont use and never used effects inisde the mpc software, but this could be relateted to the fact the software does not have PDC on send and returns.

Thats why you hear a phasing effect.

Yeah, this is basically what I was going to say. The FX could be causing a few millisecond delay in the audio and since there is no PDC to make up for the offset you get 2 of the same signal one slightly delayed which is essentially a flanger without modulation.

One solution if it's causing you a lot of problems is to put a plugin like nugen audio lineup (free) on the insert of the sound you are sending to the send effect and adjust the delay until you don't hear the flanging effect.... actually this would only work if the sends are pre-insert which I doubt they are...

it's still a useful plugin though

Me too! Every time I try the Sends, I also get a strange Flange effect...
