Samples from library

Had to go to the library today, when I discovered that they have like a hughe section for CD's. So things added up and i stod there for at least half an hour.

Pro's:
* You can borrow up to like 50 CD's at a time.
* They have some famous stuff, like Bengha and Flying lotus.
* Some stuff is quite rare and very inspirational.
* It's all for free!
* I bet that if you leave like a request, they probably end up buying the record (especially if you have you're way with the librarian ).

Con's:
* The CD's are from time to time a bit beaten up.
* Only 50 at a time.
* They dun have a section for vinyl (wouldn't work, but anyway!..).

So... any1 knew about this? Are u exploiting it? Found anything dope? Does it differ depending on country?

Bottom line, just wanted to share... Pretty amazed myself. This is perfect for a student with a low budget!

Not sure where you're at but in England (can't speak for Britain as Janet visited) they have extensive CD collections and DVDs.

I don't use them though.

Well these are the Swedish libraries and we do have the DVD collections as well (wich I'm looking to borrow and sample from). But it's nice to see you having it over there too! =)

Around here the library has an awesome resurfacing machine.

When my uncle used to work for my local library in california I used to be able to have him fix messed up DVD's and CD's.

But hell yeah.

Stealing records from the library was one of the oldest forms of digging for samples in my neighborhood.

(I thought you were gonna talk about "library" records )

What I always found interesting soundwise at the local library was their historical recordings. I grew up in a tiny town in AZ and they just had a bunch of jazz stuff (not that anyones complaining, I promise), but now that I'm in Nashville, the main library has this HUGE catelog of old recordings. Probably wont ever find some long lost breakbeat or anything, but it's a gold mine for weird vocal samples. Everything from the super 1950s "and now, through modern technology like the transistor radio, communication is instant!" to old political recordings that are still relevant to todays situation and a couple of NASA lectures (no idea where they got those) that explain all sorts of science-y crap. Throw some bitcrunch or whatever on it and its pretty crazy and stuff I'd never find anywher else.

my university library has a great collection of cds. just rip in house if you are not a student with a borrowing card.

i used to work in the music library as an undergraduate, that was in the days before cds, when it was all vinyl. they had the most amazing enthographic collection. but all anybody wanted to listen to was fleetwood mac, kate bush and monty python. wonder where all that is now...they have been tossing books out. bloody barbarians at the gates.
