You wouldn't calculate the BPM of a sample based on the whole song no matter what equipment you are using you would calculate based on a portion of the song, ie a loop. And in that case, you count beats and bars. Also, do what you want but life is much easier working with pieces and not full songs when sampling.

Completely automated BPM calculation in software is tricky to say the least. But it's very easy if the end user is inputing some data (i.e. how many bars etc). At that point, its just maths (assuming it is perfectly looped in the first place).

Would like to see at least the legacy style BPM calculation enabled.
