MPC 60, 3000 + Logic

Hi,

I've been looking for the following answer for quite some time. Does anyone know or have personal experience with the quality of sound coming straight out of MPC(60, 3000, 2000) versus MPC using logic as the final DAW output?

My favorite tracks that are made on MPC 60 and 3000 models have that "punch" and grittiness but I presume they were mixed in the MPC itself or sent to be mixed on tape retaining that "analogue" sound.

I highly doubt that if the MPC is hooked and routed to Logic is going to preserve that quality of sound, or I'm wrong.

I really want to buy one of those older MPC models but since I mix in Logic and would have to route it through it wonder if it's going to defeat the purpose.

I'm open for any suggestions or any ways around. BTW I think the SSL plugins and tape warmer types of plugins are not even close to the real deal. Thanks.

What you're referring to is sort of like analog vs. digital summing....except instead of an analog board, you are just creating a stereo mix out of the MPC. I track my 3000 into Pro Tools and mix there. I never just use the stereo outs. I can control the mix better, and no, I haven't noticed any difference in sound other than I'm able to make it sound better because I can control each part in Pro Tools rather than relying on a stereo track to eq, etc. Go for it.
