LED LCD display kit for Akai S900 and S950 sampler + photos

Haha thanks fellas! It won't be long now I promise. I have a couple more colours to show you. One more colour after this, and they are ready to go

First up is the white on blue, I have to say that this one looks better than the photos suggest. The blue is deeper than it appears in the photos. This colour really surprised me after some of the blue displays I had tried before:

matt can you take another pic of the white on black?

the pic you posted looks like a lot of blue bleed,


also can you take pictures of different angles to see how well the displays are readable not from a directly infront pic. (eg if im standing above the unit, or the unit is placed higher then my seating position)

some details on the viewing angle would be appreciated.

^^the viewing angle shouldn't be a problem on these displays (as faw as I understand the tech)

I've seen "white on blue" ones before but beside getting a better contrast didn't like them. But that green on black is so damn nice!!!!! Old school computer / calculator style. Great.

Agreed! I thought that was the most tempting choice.

Simon - thanks mate - it's not as bright as the green but it's an interesting colour, I'll show you the amber on black soon, that is along similar lines but brighter if I recall.

Horse - yeah it took me some time to track down these. Sure I'll show some more pics - about the colour bleed though, did I say white on black? It's actually white on 'midnight blue'
The viewing angles differ between the colours, the blue+white and 'midnight blue'+white seem to be the best so far when it comes to extreme viewing angles. If you were still interested in the black-on-white I do have one on order for testing.

PeterPiper + Harmoncj - that's exactly what I thought about the green on black - retro calculator / monitor style - it's my personal favourite too, so far.

BTW if you have problems with the correct color on photos you could try a differet whitebalance on your camera (if it has manual white balance setting). Display colours can look very different.

I am pretty sold on the red display, to match the Akai logo red.

I lived through old school green computer displays, like the Akai beige case colour, it doesn't do it for me.

I like the orange displays on orange gear, like this...

Don't they have a factory set default viewing angle, 12:00 (top view) or 6:00 (bottom view)?

It can be changed with contrast, but is still optimum one way or the other...

I would love to see an OLED option, much better contrast without the backlight...

But still. If I compare the photos and their angles to my original 950 LCD its "night and day". The original 950 LCD can be viewed best from something like 45 degree from above. As soon as your eyes are directly in front the contrast is really bad and if the unit is above the eyes there is nothing to read on the display.



So I guess with these new displays the viewing angle has to be extreme to not be able to read it.

This is exactly the problem with my Lexicon LXP-15II, it's a joke! I have it in one of those tilted racks and most of the time unless you are standing over it you can't see anything
