MPC2500, Digi003, YouTube

So, I'm new to the 003, just converted from the Mbox2. I'm using the 8 outs on the MPC and the ins on the 003. How do you connect the MPC up to the 003 in order to sample from YouTube? I thought if you just connected a 1/4 inch to one of the ins on the 003 to the stereo out on the MPC you would be good to go...What am I missing here?

Assuming YouTube audio is routed to your Digi003...

003 stereo audio out > MPC2500 stereo audio in, give that a try.

you could also use a youtube to mp3 converter website, search google, there are tons of them out there.

rip the audio from youtube, then use a converter program like switch for mac (it is a free download) to convert the mp3 to a 44.1 .wav that the MPC 2500 will read. you can then just plug your 2500 into your computer via usb and drag and drop the sample into it or you can import the sample into pro tools, chop it up, then export your chops out and put them into your 2500.

it seems like a lot to do, but it is really very fast once you get it down. hope that helps!

thanks for the replies...now i have another question.I have a track armed in pro tools and when I'm on the main screen in the MPC i can hit the pad and hear the sample, but when I go into the trim menu, i cant hear what I'm trimming, why is that?

I'm gonna second nod records' suggestion. On Firefox go to browse add-ons and get one of the higher user rated You Tube downloaders.

One installed (takes like 30 seconds) You Tube will always have a download button now. The really dope thing is if the YT post is in 720p/1080p you can usually download that. You'll get a high resolution m4a file, but just put that in iTunes and convert to 16 bit 44khz.

It's an unavoidable conversion stage but at least that way it's hi res to hi res at least. Definitely preferable to taking an mP3 and making a WAV of mostly empty space.

I find myself just doing a bunch in one sitting or just keep filling a folder until it's packed and then get to chopping the stuff. It's a nice complement to the usual recording to the ins method.

All these methods mentioned are fine, but digital based: taking the source, converting it to another file format, transcoding to something the MPC can deal with, and throwing it into the MPC memory. Nothing wrong with that and probably has best chance of keeping the level of quality high.

The MPC has another workflow that can be utilized: analog. If you can hear the sound from YouTube with your ears, then this can be as simple as hooking a mic up to the MPC and recording what you hear. If your computer or your soundcard has a line out then it can be input to the MPC and sampled that way.

The main advantage here is time, you just hit Rec on the MPC then Play the video and let the MPC do its job.

Is the actual file in protools or in the MPC?

Word. The main thing I wanted to bring out is how easy it is to find those higher sample rate posts on YT and work from that either through one conversion/transcode for loading from memory or catch the high bit rate signal into the MPC over SPDIF from your interface or analog outs to MPC analog ins, as you just mentioned electric dragon.

We're spoiled for access and the variety of methods we have nowadays, you gotta love it.

I'm assuming you have the pad/sample assigned to a individual output? the trim screen goes to the stereo outs so you have to have those going into protools as well ...
