I don't need Pro Tools express. At all. But I think those who wanted it, wanted it not just to have it, but also because of the upgrade options. For those who want to get 10, getting PT Express for free would save them some money.

Also. Pro Tools LE is 32bit. I don't think anyone in their right mind expected Express to be anything greater than 32bit.

If you want 64bit Pro Tools, shell out that handful of gs for PT HD.

It's a strange comparison to be making: NI giving away Maschine for free, compared to Akai Pro's Pro Tools Express offer.

1. NI owns Maschine. It costs them nothing to shoot across a code for the download of Maschine.
2. Akai Pro does not own Pro Tools, Avid does. It costs them money for a license, and money for every iLok that has to be physically sent out (as well as postage, and resources).

I bough my Ren a few weeks ago after seeing the free Pro Tools Express on the Akai website. Went to the music store, bought the Ren, got home, no Pro tools express, so I must have got old stock.

Anyway, I contacted Akai UK support, and they asked me to email my product details and a copy of proof of purchase. I am now on a list and will get sent Pro Tools Express and an iLok as soon as Akai send them to the UK section. They did say this was for anyone that bought a Ren on or after the 1st Feb 2013.

Looking forward to seeing homie's Ren videos. He's a beast on the 2000XL.

Thanks! it'll be a while tho because i still need to cop a better computer. my current one would be a nightmare to work with. guaranteed crashes lol! i got it for a really good price so i had to jump on it while i could. i just realized that protools got autocorrected to protocols too. damn smartphones lol

Not worried about the PTE. I still running PTLE 8.x with a 003Rack and it does way much more the the PTE does. I don't want to spend the money for a Cross-grade so PTLE 8 will do. PTE might become uncompatible with legacy versions once PT 11 comes out. Avid is on some cashing out shit right now.

I just got the "free" Pro Tools Express disc and iLok package in the mail last week after contacting Akai. After going through the hassle of registering the iLok, registering the software and installing it I found out that it only works with a few Avid audio interfaces such as the mbox 3rd gen.,etc. The irony is that all of the compatible ones listed on their site already include PTE! I'm stuck with a useless dongle and software! I had read that new versions of ProTools allowed you to use any audio interface and even the built-in core audio.

What a waste.
