Hi, ok.

First of all, make sure your downloaded (Akai OS 1.24) file is not corrupted. If it still doesn't work, try to re-download it from here.

http://www.mpc-tutor.com/mpc-operating-systems/

Then use this method to either install JJos or Akai os, using the appropriate OS.

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/update310.htm

I understand you go back to the Akai OS while learning the basics, but once you get used to it, i suggest you go back to JJos as it is a much more powerfull OS.

Hope this helps.

Yes, the screens don't differ that much. In most cases if it is different even a brand new user will probably look at it in JJ and say, "that seems better"...

The main reason to use JJ Free over the Akai OS is Global Program Edit. In the Akai OS let's say you have 64 sounds in Banks A-D in one Program. If you want to change the tuning for example on all 64 samples...you would have to adjust 64 separate times ! This sadly applies to any Program parameters you want to change on more than one pad at once.

On JJ you can toggle "ALL" when editing Programs and it's one operation rather than a possible 64 operations. Just a few hours on Akai OS the lack of an "ALL" toggle will drive you insane and waste an unbelievable amount of time.

I used Akai OS for approximately 75 minutes...it has not entered my world since.

Thanks guys for your help, I am finding that jjos is better, I'm still finding my way round it, just one thing though when I press save it wants a password what's that about,

Jack.

You're not on JJ Free then. You have installed OS1, OS2 or OSXL. All of those have to have a password purchased. In order to give a demo experience, save is the only thing disabled. (Buying OSXL gets you full access to OS1, OS2 and OSXL)

JJ Free 3.16 first one listed.

It's a file format thing. I'll have to look at an MPC here to see the exact order you need to do the OS files. Basically the XL OS is in a format that only the Free JJ can read, so when you uninstall it has to be done in a certain order.

Bump this thread tomorrow or PM me and I'll give the steps, it's better if I do it once to be sure I tell you the right steps.

Meta, the link you provided is for the MPC1000.

This one is for the 2500:

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/

The free version for the 2500 is 3.10

Important: JJos 3.16 is the free version for the MPC1000 and JJos 3.10 is the free version for the MPC2500.

Also, know that JJosXL is the paying version for the MPC2500 and JJos2XL is for the paying version for the MPC1000.

Plus, this needs to be done when switching between JJos versions:

It's (written in red at the bottom of the page) from the link i provided :

"When you change OS, please switch on a power supply, pressing the ERASE button first.
Please press the ERASE button until a main screen is displayed.
If this operation is not performed, MPC may freeze or it may crash."

Hope this helps

Nice.

Yes, if it isn't the 2 different file formats causing confusion on Akai to JJ OS updates (or the reverse) it's the weird CF behavior and the OS's. I used to be able to only use the 32MB and 128MB cards that came with my MPC's to update/change the OS. For some reason my Sandisk, Transcend and Lexar CF cards would never be able to do the update. But those cards all worked fine to save/load and load data from.

Then one day all my just worked for OS's files... :hmmm: So glad the card switch worked. Really glad to hear the JJ Free worked out. Just the bug fixes over the last Akai OS and the Global Program Edit are awesome for free.

Welcome and see you around the forum. :)

Thanks Metatron72 and the other guys for your help and comments very much appreciated, :-D I manage to get a sort of manual for the free one and I have downloaded the manual for OSXL, the problem I have now is having played with the JJOSXL system I got to like it so I might buy it, but for now I will try to learn the free one.

No doubt I'll be on here a few times looking for help so see you all soon,

I lasted about 6 hours before I bought XL, so I know what you mean. You must have found the old Stan Steez manual, he's a good dude and did a great job putting that manual together.
