Sampling Big Samples and saving Disk space and the same time...
I was just telling someone in crate diggers and I though I share this..some might know this..

If you sampling a big sample (or small) and your concered about disk space and ram space etc, then if your using your turntable turn the PITCH right up if its 33 rpm then jack it up to 45 rpm, then when its in the MPC slow it back down with TUNE.
When saving you will see that the file size of the sample is considerably small than if u was to sample it normally.

also try sampling in mono, you can use a program like Sound Forge if need be to convert the sound from st to mono and keep both the left and right by doing a conversion with 50% R and 50% L. This will save you half of your disk space.

so is it me or are you just f*ckin up the sample even more by doing that distortion instead of some dedicated sw or hw time stretching?
i mean sample heads use that to dirty up samples also.... for a reason

Penfold that's quite spooky, I was thinking about this yesterday and thought in theory if I speeded samples up it would take less space and then you could just pitch it down in the tune screen...cue spooky music.

Cats used to worry about disk space back in the day when they were dealing with floppy disk and small capacity hard drives. Its not really an issue anymore with cheap mega-gigabyte storage available.

Nowadays though I think some people just wanna be able to say
"mine is bigger than yours". Knowing damn well they don't use
all that storage/RAM space.. I use up the 32mb in my xl often
but it's just extra samples just chillin/sittin in memroy, all my samples
for one song RARELY use up ALL of that 32mb. Some folks actually
use it up on the regular though and more power to 'em, that's way cool.
