Bad sequences

Hi!

Do you know what is the cause to this message appearing while making a beat?

Just recorded some new midi on a track in loop mode and then:

"Sorry, this sequence contains damaged data. An attempt has been made to recover as much data as possible, but some data may have been lost."

Which MPC are you using?

Are you saving sequences to internal memory, floppy, Zip, CF?

Thank you for the quick answer. Sorry i didn't take the time to give infos cause i'm in real stress right now trying to recover all the elements from my bad sequences to new ones.., i have been working on this track for 2 days now and i refuse to lose it.

I'm with MPC3000 OS 3.11 and i save to ZIP.

I use two ZIP drive and i highly suspect one of the two to be the cause to this.., this happens rarely but i have the feeling that it is always after i saved to this drive and not the other..

I wouldn't recommend Zip drives to my worst enemy. So many issues are related to Zip drives, even before the obligatory 'click of death' puts in an appearance. I'd try saving sequences to some other medium to see if the data corruption you are experiencing can be attributed to the Zip drive you are using. Either way, take this episode as a warning. If your data is valuable to you, don't rely on Zip discs or drives, upgrade to a internal/external CF drive and be happy.

I look forward to upgrade to CF reader in the future yes, but in the meantime do you think that to save only the sequences to floppy would be more reliable than the zip or it has bad reputation too?

Fortunately, i have been able to recover my sequences. It was so frustrating! I was just at the moment when drum and midi sequencing is done and ready to enter song mode to arrange that thing when this happened!

Absolutely! Floppy is perfect for sequences, should be able to hold everything on 1 HD floppy. I do not have a 3000, but I've been looking at the specs for a minute. Have you considered this OS3.16? Pretty sure this is a free man sell labs you can load from floppy, I lost the page but the rundown of features were mostly about fixing storage errors

You should save to both Zip and floppy, to have a backup on the floppy to avoid these problems if still using the Zip.

Work out which Zip drive is causing the corrupt files, don't use it anymore.

Use 720kb DD/DS (2DD) floppies if you can get hold of some. HD floppies can be made to work but can present similar issues (data corruption) later down the line.

Co-sign and I agree with Clint. My floppy on the 3000 died as it gave an error as I was wanted to fix a beat I finished yesterday. In the process of getting an Internal CF drive as soon as I get it back from the repair shop.
