Recording with Pro-tools

sup yall , i have some questions
i have a lot of gear and when i make a beat i use ALL my equipment
ex ( i get some sounds from my motif es8, sample with my asr-10, use my mpc 4000 for the drums , and use the proteus 2000 for some hi hats ,

for the past 8 months i been using cool edit ..... whack i know , recently i just upgraded to pro tools, got a digi002 (mixer) i want to be able to record one sound at a time , but how can i do this

what do i need ?? how am i going to be able to sync all my equipment??
and i dont want to plug and unplug cables ( takes times)

- somebody was telling me to get a 32 channel mixer or get the control 24 from digidesign, but i dont think i need all this .....

i also heard a patchbay and a midi sync module will work .....

as yall can see im lost ....need yall help

I have the Digi 002 Rack, and I just record straight into it.
I'm sure you can do the same with the Mixer ver.
You may need a mixer if you want to tweak the sound going in. ie compress, or E.Q. if you do that sort of thing to DAW.
I usually record raw then tweak in PT.
I would sequence what you waant in the MPC or PT, then MIDI each peice and record away.

are you midi'd up?


i would definitely sequence everything through the mpc via midi, and have all of your gear's audio outputs going into the back of the 002. (you've got 8 inputs + 4 xlr's, and if you need more than that, then yes, you will need to buy a bigger mixer, or unhook cables.) set up a session in pro-tools and make a track for each input.

if everything is done correctly when you press play on the mp every different sound you have will be assigned it's own track/channel.

You can get a behringer ADA8000 and use that plugged into the 002's ADAT ins to give you an additional 8 ADAT inputs for a total of 16 in's .

You can also use the spdif inputs for a total of 18 inputs(you can record 18 tracks at a time). By the way, the xlr's and 1/4 inch inputs on channels 1-4 can't be used at the same time.

but if i have a lof of gear 4 inputs wont be enough
ex asr-10, mpc 4000, proteus 2000, motif es8, triton studio, alesis ion, mo phatt, nord lead 3, i want to be able to use all of them at the same time.

i was looking at the mackie 32-8 mixer , so i can record from the mackie mixer into the digi 002 mixer, but i wont be able to record all my instruments at the same time...right ....?? i will have to plug and unplug cables ....what about the digidesign control 24

and also how will i be able to sync all the instruments into protools??
i can use the mpc as a slave .......
- i just want to be able to record all my instruments at the same time , without playing with cables ........feel me

Again, the 002 has 18 inputs, not 4. If you invest in a product like the before mentioned ADA8000 you can take full advantage of all 18 inputs on the 002. If you need to record more than 2 outputs from any of the sound sources you mentioned(you can run 4 from one of 'em) you'll need more inputs. Let's assume you want to sequence everything on the MPC and then track everything into PT, you would just need to mute any tracks that weren't being tracked in that pass. So if you have 24 tracks that you want to record into PT you would mute 6 of 'em and track 18, then mute those 18 and unmute the other 6 and track those.

Oh and if you can afford the Control 24, get a HD system instead.
