Barely used with full packaging and software. Dropping to $800. Steady at $850. If you spend more than $999 BRAND NEW at retail, right now, you are doing it wrong.

Right, I was looking at new pricing, didn't think you would find many new on CL.

You definitely won't find many new new, but you will find a bunch of people looking to unload them after very, very little use. I unloaded mine after less than an hour of use.

Ultimately for me and others out there multi core is the biggest drawback for the Ren. I struggled with it and tried it in my DAW. Crash after crash, I love MPC workflow, it is the best and so simple.

When Akai gets it together and puts out multi core. I will be on my Ren. But till then I am learning a new work flow. I just don't understand how an industry leader for so long has neglected this.

I made music 10 years ago and because of my career. And the amount of time that was spent making it. I had to lay it down, so about 8 months ago I started researching it again. And I see that the inspirations and desires I had for faster work flow was now present.

10 years ago Akai MPC and a Korg Triton with a Nord lead Clavia. Was the best setup for me. But Recording time and set up was crazy. Then having to fly all over gods great country for work. It just did't work. But now I can load my laptop and a controller in a bag. And I am playing again. Wherever And whenever I want. So I thought. You know how frustrating this is.

I told a friend of mine how I wanted back in to music. He said get a machine, I said hell no. This guy has been on many of big players tracks. He told me I would be frustrated for a wile until Akai can develop the Ren. He was rite.

Akai will make the Ren the best on the market. But it will be some time. Sia la vie.

This is damn near the same EXACT situation I was/am in. I was making music 8 years ago. Life got in the way. Put it down. Just got back into it about 4 months ago. SO MUCH has changed since I stopped making music. I went through the MPD, the Maschine, and the Ren and ended up coming back to old faithful, the MPC 4000. And I picked up the 2500 for fun. With the 4000 and 2500, it feels damn good to press one button and be back to making music. I couldn't get into the whole computer making music thing, at least not now.

The Ren wasn't 64 bit 9 months ago....it isn't 64 bit today and most likely not tomorrow either. But this hasn't impacted me from using the Ren one bit. I am fully aware of the Ren's limitations. Because of this, I know I shouldn't use too many processor hungry plugins.

Work within the confines of how the product was designed or come up with unique work arounds. This is what MPCs users have always done as all MPCs have limitations to include the 2500 and 4000.

Same could be said of any feature request that you suggest.

Why do you make any feature requests at all, why don't you just work within the confines of what is available and use workarounds?

Multicore support is a a major omission in a plugin host like this, that is designed to be used with many instrument and effects plugins.

You like to use plugin support as one of the major advantages of MPC Software, but you have some sort of problem with other users wanting to make full use of the processing power available in their multicore computers.

Arguing against multicore support, that is some bizarre sh!t!

I knew that's all you'd come up with when your ignorance of how modern computers actually operate left you no leg to stand on.

And how one would use the limitations of a legacy MPC has nothing to do with the fact that Maschine And Ren/Studio both have a glaring weakness when pitted against just about every other piece of software out there.

It's comical to see your stand offish attitude come out yet again simply because clearly you take a normal reasonable feature expectation as something you have to scramble to rally against or at the very least attempt to dispel that it should be in there.

I'd say you're missing the point but you're probably not, just trying to obfuscate it as usual. If you didn't know multi core was support is basically industry standard you do after this thread.

So save trying to present yourself as more clever about dealing with the crippling limitation or act like the want for multi core is unreasonable. No shit people will have to just deal with until it's addressed, anything else obvious you want to report like Japan is still a bunch of islands?

That last post is in the grand tradition of your "I don't care if the sampling in the Ren isn't up to par, I have Mach 5 and others should just use another sampler in their...MPC sampler".

Yea it is part of growing up and becoming a man. Sometimes you have to sacrifice your passions to reach stability in your life. But once you discover a passion, one can never settle that burning desire. It will always be in the back of your mind. It is part of being human and it completes you.

It is different though now, because I purely want to make music to express my self. Without the cloud of fame and fortune. Since now I have what is most important in life. An understanding of who I am and what I stand for. My place here may not be how I dreamed it but it is complete.

As far as hardware versus software I am all about soft ware. Since I have very little time to myself. Speed and accessibility is important to me. Having tools like this forum help tremendously. I played on my first MPC 14 years ago. It was one of those times in my life when it just felt natural. Thank you Akai, I have faith that you will come threw.

And Jah I understand there are limitations. So I researched and found something for now. Thanks to knowledge shared from great people. Thanks Metatron, Until Akai has what I assumed I was buying. And this was all due to my own negligence. For not researching it more. I own that.

Maybe it is more simpler and the Ren should just be a controller. For software that is developed. Multi core is important to me. I did't know this until I purchased the Ren. You know in Abelton you can create a drum rack that has 128 samples on one pad that I can scroll threw with the turn of a macro knob . 128x16=2048 sounds in one bank. Just figured how to do it today. And it works.

And when I bought the Ren the sales pitch that got me was. It supports VSTand Au plugins. There was no small print that said your limited to no more than 3 plugins. Just saying. Also there was this English guys videos. Where He would drum a beat then do a key riff. And never showed a complete song. But put a couple things down, probably cause he knew if he put down the full production it would of been crashing. I think his name is Andy.

I know that Akai is trying to complete this project. It will all happen in due time.

Certainly you can do a production within single core limits and being constricted to 32 bit RAM counts. But it's silly if for a indeterminate amount of time going forward that NI and Akai's customers don't know when or if the limits will ever be addressed.

As mentioned every else is multi core capable. So it puts NI and Akai's customers in a headlock, if you want the 16 pad influenced by legacy hardware boxes style, or in Akai's case the actual extension of the legacy that inspired Maschine, the trade off is it works at 1/2-1/8th the efficiency of everything else you own?

That is not a minor consideration in 2013.
By Jnmmorgan79 Tue Jun 04, 2013 2:40 am
Yea your rite I could record my plugin on a track. Then resample that track so it is a sample. And conserve CPU. But talk about killing inspiration. I love the idea of having my large palate of complex sounds at my dispense.

It's really as simple as you got an ASIO/Core Audio meter saying 60-90% and at any given moment you look at the CPU's on an OS level and it reports (correctly) that you're actually only taxing the total available power at 7-15%.

I don't think the answer there is I'm too picky or not clever enough to work around it, it's why should I even need to?

But Jerome may be correct to the extent that NI and Akai owners will have no choice but to live with it. NI will not even address the question beyond "maybe someday" and I highly doubt Akai would answer a direct query about it besides giving out their own "maybe someday".

Which is the origin of my earlier statements that if one of the companies just gets it done, the other will surely follow suit.

If I was a Ren/Studio owner I would at least request that they allow multiple instances of the VST/AU to loaded in a host program. At least Maschine owners can assign instances to their own cores and switch between them in the DAW and use the one controller.

I would not think this would be very difficult as I can not think of an other VST/AU on earth that does not allow multiple instances besides the Ren/Studio.

But I would say this thread has established this is not an unreasonable demand in 2013 given the market and the downside to it's absence.

I would say these two competing products are more like an oven that only goes to 125 F. I need food service level performance not Betty Crocker Easy Bake toy level.

crockpot will get you there but takes few hours longer and you gotta come prepared with list of not to use features for optimal performance n user experience
