How do I play my roland keyboard thru midi into mpc 1000 ?

So I can plug in to midi in (1) on mpc, going to midi out on keyboard, and turn keyboard volume down, and I can play MPC sounds on the keys . Pretty cool, but what I want is the other way around.

Instead of using the pads on mpc to do perfomance for recording a track for a sequence, I want to use imput thru , midi so I can hopefully play chords on keyboard, and be able to record it onto a track , so I dont have to put up with short notes on 16 levels and resampling takes too long.


But there is no sound. I go to the midi/sync screen, go to note, and I see my keyboard is definitely triggering notes, but why no sound? I have tryed copying exactly from videos on youtube about this issue but still stuck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Because your track has no program maybe? Or is not midi channel assigned to the correct midi channel out to other sound module or synth. Trial the jjos and try the instrument program.

Hey Cheers Bliprock! I have now hooked it up and can hear it, I never knew you needed a mixer.
So I have a shitty Roland EM 10, and I do the midi handshake with the mpc ,audio cables of both into mixer, I go change to midi, turn off program, press midi/sync and have soft thru off , track set to ALL, program change turned off ,pad to internal sound on,in sync screen I have sync in:1 sync out:off,input thru on in mixer screen.

If I turn the local off on keyboard I cant use keys, only pads, and can only use 4 A and assign patch of my choice, as soon as I go to make a selection of a new patch, my keyboard won't change patches. If you know how to get around this I would be super grateful.
I know it can be done, seen heaps of dudes on youtube with the 500 doing it (Selecting patches on synth/keyboard and assigning them to midi channels, instead of
just random ones chosen).

I don´t have an answer for this, but rather a question! It would be awesome if you could help me. I have the same keyboard and using it with reason, whenever I press the sustain pedal it triggers a note, and don´t know how to fix this, whether the keyboard has this configuration or the computer, etc.

That's a strange one. By default the sustain pedal should transmit MIDI Control Change (CC) message #54. CC's are independent of MIDI note # transmissions so again that's odd.

Most sustain pedals though when used with software can be made to trigger a MIDI note # rather then send the default CC # 64 for sustain. Using the pedal to trigger a kick drum sample is something people do.

In Reason the pedal shouldn't be triggering a MIDI note # unless you set it up that way in Reason's "Remote Override" mapping mode. Where you mapping something in that mode and maybe pressed the pedal while in control edit mode without meaning to?
