It's highly regarded by those who've bought it. I researched it a lot during the introductory offer and just missed the last sale. A lot of people figure they must be about to drop a new version to be having these sales, but what's on offer currently is pretty solid and I'd imagine if they do drop a new version you'd be walking right into a decent upgrade offer.
But it appears to be a solid solution for analog style summing without going broke on Waves, Soft Tube and Steve Slate level priced stuff.

if they could sell this as a plugin to replace the summing, mixing etc in other DAWs.. they'd have gold in their hands

It's a modified version of a basic multi track DAW called Ardour. Given what they are trying to do they wanted to have a multi track/mixing environment that was uniform to implement their tech.
The idea is to just use the app as a final mixing area with your stems from another DAW. But I can see how it's a bit of a head scratcher when first looking at it.
