this cat said hovi baby was corny. That was one the song that got me to pay attention to how I lay my drums. His programming of his snares in that song is sick and the way jay spits on that track. Thats one of the best on the album.

I like rjd2. I won't listen to his shit 1000 times, but it's ok. There's no hype about him, it's kanye that gets all the hype for no reason at all. He's pretty much average to me.
I can dig Shadow too, cause he's not fakin any of that shit. he's got proper skills.
Just go see all of them live, and compare. Shadow is on a different level.

I can understand why people wouldn't be feeling some of rjd2's music becuase its diffrent. Its also possible that if people don't listen to all genre's of music then they may never apprecite a rjd2 release as a whole. People say they wouldn't put him in there top 5 ... of course you wouldn't when your top 5 producers do the same genre of music. If you don't like 80's rock you may not enjoy a lot his latest release. So i can mos definitely understand why cats wouldn't be feeling a lot of his production. But what I don't understand is why people judge an artist on how "overrated" they think he is. That shouldn't even be brought up espescially since those are others people's opinions of his music. I never heard him say he was the best so why get mad when other people say it?

And i don't understand how the murs track relates to rjd2.

I can understand that if people hype someone up too much they tend to lose their appeal. But since no one around me is hyping up dj shadow I can appreciate him. Check out Brainfreeze (him mixing with Cut Chemist). That's a mix of vinyl and a couple of his originals. ROCKING

sage has won a ton of battles and is a real dope freestyle mc. i can understand if you don't like some of his content, but you can't deny his skill. i don't feel most of his shit but i recognize the talent going into it.

on the whole rjd2/shadow thing...man if you're hatin shadow you're a straight up ****. that fool's first 2 albums were revolutionary for the time. appreciate them for what they are. i feel a lot of rjd2's shit as well, but to me he's a pretty hard bite off of shadow's earlier work. still, he's got talent as well and ive read he's been using his own instrumentation these days.

quit hatin and learn to respect and appreciate other aspects of music. if you ever want to be a great producer you need to learn different aspects of music production and styles IMHO. narrow viewpoints will lock you into one sound and doom you to a life of obscurity and monotonous beats.

i dont hate rjd2, he does his thing but i dont really like his music a whole lot. i think it sounds overproduced wit no soul. he will do a track that is technically superior but in the end sounds like a robot produced it. thats just what i hear. id much rather a couple jazz cuts for instrumental shit, i think its kinda pointless to listen to instrumental hip hop when i can throw on a lonnie liston smith record and listen to the real shit
