another thing: you probably have to run thru lawsuits because of copyright/patent laws.

But yes, you're right. It's not impossible to build a sp1200 (or sp12) nowaday. It's just expensive (and because of the progress of electronic parts it will get more and more expensive cause there will be no more machines that could produce these parts. Not just chips.) and it's probably not allowed to sell it.

Glad to see the plan to turn around some gear is working out well.

Meta, I'll possibly flip one of my SP1200's if all goes to plan. I know a few UK forum members would like to grab one. All I do is find the gear, make good, flip it and wait for the next deal.

Having said that, you'd be surprised how some stuff actually finds me, rather than me finding it. As in this case. The price has been agreed and collection arranged for the weekend. Here are some pics of the actual unit. The complete package includes the reissue SP1200, original manual, flightcase and 40+ floppy disc library. There is more to this story, all will be revealed next week...








There is a minty SP1200 available in Ramsgate, Kent if anyone's interested. Only a hour or so drive from London. Looks great and seller is open to offers..been advertised for two weeks and no takers. The dude still has it, he's asking for £1500 but theres a deal to be had.

I know what you mean Clint. I never had the dough for MPC's for a long time, and then when I did have the money I found 5 in 18 months all good deals. In a town that must have no more than 20 MPC's tops.

Speaking of SP1200's as we are, what do you guys think of the chunkiers faders? Or maybe some people haven't noticed that some of the reissues have much chunkier faders than the slimline (regular) OG grey SP1200's and SP12's? My understanding is that E-mu ran out of the original part from time to time, and substituted the chunkier caps during these times. I know its mainly cosmetic, but might grab a pair of fatties to see how they feel in use.

Personally I'd like to know more about loading the SP1200 OS and existing floppies onto the SD card, and the option to retain the floppy drive with the ability to switch between it and a HxC. Read about that somewhere, having both drives installed piggy-back style.

Nobody seems to have a USB emulator working in the SP1200 yet, and they are so much cheaper. When that happens its game over paying £100's for an SP compatible emulator.

So I now have this minty 1994 reissue in my possession having collected it from Brighton today. I did say there was more to this story, didn't I? Back on pages 17-18 of this thread marrelarre tried to buy a second SP1200, after falling victim to a scammer the first time. Some relevant extracts...

Today I paid £1000 cash for the very same SP1200 that marrelarre 'won' on eBay 10-11 weeks ago, minty fresh, no problem with it at all. As I suspected. Talking to the seller it turns out that as a result of the issues with very slow Paypal payment following the eBay sale, he suspected that the buyer (marrelarre) was actually trying to scam him. That is why he backed out. Just goes to show, there are two sides to every story.

The seller didnt relist or advertise elsewhere. He contacted me last week thru eBay, as I had asked a question about the listing when it was live, and offered me the SP1200, we spoke on the phone and it was a done deal. Luckily marrelarre did finally cop an OG grey SP1200 and he's happy with it, so now everybody is happy.

Wait until you guys hear what I'm up to tomorrow...
