Best midi controllor EVER

This is brilliant, a new addition (and perhaps one of the cheapest). Picked up a Roland GI-10 midi converter with a GK3 pickup to place under my tele (guitar). Spent a good day getting the settings just right. Previously using a micro-korg as a keyboard controllor. My patches have suddenly come to life as I'm actually playing them with feel. This is a dream for all those fast high to low octave drum and bass (lines). Slides, and pitchshifting is just awesome. the patches on the xv 5080 are just mesmerizing playing with a midi guitar.....wish I had of made the plunge earlier. Shoot me with some Q's if your interested. This is tech from 1995! (although the PU is quite new) .

those guitar to MIDI controllers can't play actual chords though, correct? aren't they mono... just one note at a time?

The hex ones do polyphony.

Poly of 6. Can easily play chords, so it's great with keys, especially if you're got average skills on the midi keyboard. Better if you can play with fingers, better feel, I find I can really control the velocity of my playing. Also each string can send data on 6 different midi channels. The midi converter has got touch sensitive settings for each string, this is great as it is a bit tricky to adjust the same height of string over each pickup. Because instinctively string based instruments are my thing, I'm finding I'm getting so many variations and melodies, rather than the old midi keyboard. This really has freshened up my music making after hibination

Someone from here was trying to find out if an old GM-70 working with singing or something too ay, was that you bruv?

This would be great for guitarists, many of them I know can play the schit out of a guitar but can’t find the corresponding notes on a keyboard 
Would also be BAD ASS for basslines………..slide notes and synth slap!

Not me, but the GI-10 has a mic line in, converts audio to midi, haven't tried voice yet, but did initially plug my guitar in and got some OK results. But yes with the GK pickup I'm finding i can lay down some really cooking basslines (I'II post some up) using this combo; great being able to do slides w/o using a pitchwheel.

I have the same setup, except with a fretless guitar (a peavey I found in the trash, sanded and finished with Zap CA). Don't forget to try mapping samples across different parts of the neck. Pitch bend to 12!

Just a small testing of the GI-10. Completely unedited. The basslines and synth chords are all done by the guitar talking to the converter. At 172bpm; a drumnbass beat. There are 4 short loops; the last one is me using my voice to convert the pitch to midi

Yes the roland xv5080. Using the roland Mv 8800 for recording. You can use anything thru the mic in jack of the GI-10, I was trying out a recorder and getting some decent results. The guitar with the gk PU works the best.It's good to be able to sequence in a more natural manner. Next I'II put up some drum trigger sequences from the guitar

yes! that is what I want to hear... im curious of how you could set that up... haha.

I never tried the x5080 in real life... but I have some drum samples that are apparently from that thing and I have to say I really like them. very very useful as meat and potatoes drums to fit into projects when you need just a single hit you're missing (ie: grabbing a crash to fit in for transitions etc)
