And if live sampling & mangling is your thing, have you checked out the octatrack? I love my MPC for producing music but when I was messing with a live setup, I was looking for a bank to rob so I could get an octatrack. The sequencer looks limited but the live performance possibilities look awesome.

yeah, I looked at the octatrack, but I would rather base my setup around a notebook with some midi controllers than pay for the octatrack

^^Cosign.. After I get another 2500 that's what Im trying to get for that reason exactly. I'm an "in the box" kind of producer and the Octa seems like all the capabilities of software with a filthy hardware control.. AAaaany, back on topic lol

And the price is actually reasonable IMO..

This works, but again there seems to be some bug: when recoding midi data into a constantly playing (looping) sequence using punch in and punch out, sometimes the mpc stops sending already recorded midi notes and after a few seconds it suddenly starts working again. What's up with that? Is that a confirmed bug or is my unit broken?

Can the MPC 500 resample itself?

Yes, the 500 is like any other MPC. Its just as powerful as a 2500 with 128 Programs, 32 mute groups, LPF, HPF and BPF filters, 32 polyphony, 48 tracks. . . I could go on. Just think of a MPC3000 in a compact size.
