early morning before the heat is where its at... im a lazy flowers but ive heard about cats showing up to dig with lights before sunrise even at a couple certain spots...
biz markie has been spotted at one of these spots supposedly too...
funny you should mention that though. i live in the desert and there is a weekly swapmeet very close to me... its been around 100F for over a week now... but anyway, quite a few vendors have recs for sale... the same ones pretty much for years now... all sitting out on the table in 100 degree weather in the sun... these old timer "antique sellers/collectors" think they know recs, but have exhibited no understanding of vinyl care... its funny when all "collector/vendors" think every elvis, beatle, and sinatra record is worth a goldmine... this dude had the beatles butcher cover all flowers up with the sticker peeled off the original cover and faded graphics, warped and all... dude was asking $300.
same dude had a newer stack of recs a few months ago... dude wanted to name the price off the head for ever record, he said 3,5, and 10 dollars each... i just walked offf... im sure most of those recs are still there getting sunwarped....
although, as always happens... i came across a nice collection when i wasnt expecting to dig for recs... i was walking through and had $42 to my name which was in all actuality gas money... noticed this one vendor had like 12 boxes of recs all in good condition and must have just arrived.... started digging and it was one helluva collection... as more people started digging around me, i had a stack of over 100 recs that i had to slim down... MAD soul. i came up hard and had to spend every last dollar of my gas money.... had to leave so much heat, out there in the heat... ended up getting 45 recs or so for $42.... this older black gentleman was coming up hard too, on his own and what i put back... although when it started to get busy in there he came up on a richard pryor that i left in the stack to go ask the price before i looked too eager and hungry... i never ask the price with a rec in hand... big mistake that time... dude swooped hard...
i also realized i need to step my country western game up... dude asked me what i was digging through across the table as he was kinda skimming some other recs... i told him, "nothing crazy just some older country stuff like this", held up this record with a cowboy dude on horseback and dude got all inspired and motivated to hit that box of recs immediately after me... probably some classic country schit in there i was sleeping hard on... i like some of that older country schit to be honest, but dont know much about it.... looked over and dude was stocking up eagerly...
i came up though. wish i had more cash and was prepared to dig... coulda been happy with over 200 dollar recs that day... i was limited to 45 though...
digging is all luck. but you have to be educated and prepared for when that luck strikes...
i aint got the patience to sift through mad wack shit anymore really... but doing just that i found the winstons lp with amen brother on it in the midst of about 500 church records for 29cents...
im in a good spot for digging recs now. i got a couple james brown king recs for a buck at this thrift shop near here too.. its mad hot though, and everyone thinks they know recs, so they try to tax.... the record store near here is ran by this vinyl collector dude in his 60s... i swear he keeps all the heat and sells the trash.... starting at 4 bucks a pop... lol....
u always come across some worthwhile digs at the least expected/prepared moment though....

went to a second hand shop I regulary go. I know most of the records there cause they rarely change them and noone really wants to buy one of those german schlager music shit. But sometimes they have a few new records but they always put them between the other shitty records so you have to search everytime you go there. So I searched and forund the winstons LP in a stack of german schlager music.
but still a nice find) and a the "tales from topographic oceans" LP from YES and the "quadrophenia" LP of The Who (I'm not a "The Who" fan but should I leave a double LP in mint condition also including a photobook there if it just cost 50 cent??).
