That Impulse is the sh!t. It's mapping software and navigation are super easy to use. I use all the knobs and sliders mostly when in Pro Tools. It's got bank buttons next to the faders to move in banks of 8 and a "plug-in" activation button next to the knobs that when you press it it maps itself to whatever plug-in you have open on screen.

It's also got an arpegiattor that is a lot of fun to fck around w/ .

Finally got a microkorg xl

Now completely content with my set up s*it just fits with all my needs gonna have some fun with my little stairway studio

@shank carvin: this is a cool, but powerful little setup that fits into the proverbial "smallest corner" and can be colapsed to save even more space.

if you put the mixer next to the mpc and the audio interface next to the dj controller then you could cram a tiny laptop between your speakers and be all set.

and maybe, depending on your production style, swap the dj controller and the microkorg so you can hide the dj controller while working on a beat only on the mpc and keyboard. or do you use the controller as some sort of midi controller for the mpc?

The shelves/ttays are actually both retractable so i can have either the controller out or the xl out or both (as shown above) so i can actually do what your suggesting already. The xl and S2 (controller) trays are at full extension in the pics above i only tend to use one at a time, the S2 is used for handling mp3 samples or just having a mix i do have a turntable but havent bothered to set it up as im happy with the S2 (ive been sampling mp3's for years and only do the odd scratch or accapella mix with the turntable and now im in smaller space ive put the turntable away for now but its there should i need it)

The little tower thats just visible in the lower right (with t shirts/dust covers on) of the bottom pick has a cheap board square on topwhich is where i place the laptop its in full view when im seated in front of the main stack of equipment (staiway) so i hot that base covered i did toy with putting it where you said but the spaces either side of the other equipment arent big enough for the mixer and the laptops proximity to the large magnets inside the speakers are a worry to have so close to my laptop ideally another shelf above the speakers would be ideal but its a bit inexcessible if i want to use the keyboard of the laptop

The stairway also sits on 2 breezeblocks which raises the desktop (mpc level) thus raising the trays and allowing me to play the xl while seated i usually stand when im mixing on the S2 (i only use it to record samples amd mix to answer question i havent got any midi cables because i dont want to use any external midi at all when making beats) however when using the S2 for doing less animated activities like sample recording i can also be seated. Also out of shot i have a dj mixer that tethers the inputs (S2 and xl) for sampling, its situated at the base of the stairway so eveything is in arms reach when im sat down this has improved my workflow to no end

It was just a cheap ass old pc desk 4 piece mdf number so it has two solid sides (as opposed to legs) and one tray for your keyboard i bought a desktop shelf from ikea and mounted it to the rear of the basic pc desk for the mixer and speakers i put the mpc on the desks top then the S2 on the tray (see my post on the previous page). I then copped the xl and had a dilemma; i could only use on sample/instrument at a time as i had no other adequete surface for either the xl or S2 so i looked at new desks which proved fruitless as there were none with double shelves, not that i could afford it. So i researched some more and came across ikeas keyboard tray and attached it to the desks tray giving me a second shelf but it was at the expense of comfort and in particular my leg room so i raised the desks height with the breeze blocks and vious la the staiway was born
