Jah, you're funny....

I had my unit the longest. I spent an average of 8 hours a day making music but also testing the software...smashing the buttons..intentionally trying to make the software crash, etc. I am even pressing really hard forcibly...on the buttons as I type this. My unit is solidly built.

But I take your post for face value. This items are massed produced and assembled in a factory. So I am sure there are units that could possibly be flawed in some way.

By the way....I only commented in this thread as this is not something isolated to the Ren. Even back in Namm 2012, Flux spoke to Dan about the number of hardware MPC buttons he has broken and whether the Ren would have a different button design. "Don't smash the buttons" as they respond really well.

:smoker:

Must be a faulty unit then.. Because there were no buttons being smashed.

The fact that the play start button went before the tap tempo tells me there was something weak or faulty about that specific spot.

I love how defensive you get about the Ren at this point it's quite comical. I'm no fan boy to any equipment and am just giving objective , critical feedback.

^^^hope the point is clear now, if you cant understand what you previously said who can :hmmm:

Go back and read what you wrote. You summed up your experience with your Ren being 'faulty' as a poor quality product in general. But others have not reported this issue....and this issue is known to be a common issue of hardware MPCs. Not acknowledging any of this is far from objective.

Now if there were multiple forum reports on this issue.....then you could be on to something.

We'll see, time will tell.

And like I've said before ... You make beats and use your Ren 8 hours a day ... But have no music to share at all? I value and respect you technical knowledge.. But until you show that you USE the Ren to actually make songs then your definition of "using" the Ren is very different than mine. You might beta test for akai, you might get paid to test for akai (I'm not saying you do, I have no idea), but I make music.. And get paid to make music.. So this "review" is still valid, even though it might be a "faulty" unit it still represents poor quality control and is definitely worth mentioning. The ren is still very new and we will see what happens.

having the 2500 and 1000, IHMO the contruction of the REN seems a lil better...the jog weel is much better, i would define it almost and ideal one...

of course to me 2500's pas have the best feel, i guess cause it is an heavier and thick machine (and i got the thick pads with hand made silicon inserts underneath).

Yea, I would agree with that. Although I did use the 1k for 3 years without breaking one button.

But yea the Ren jog wheel is def nice!! The whole unit really feels pretty nice when it comes down to it.. Even the button that is broken seemed to be very solid. Another reason I'm surprised it broke.. I don't slam on the play button !! Hopefully it's just a rare problem.. Id guess we will start seeing most of the problems after the year warranty is over!! 6 months of HEAVY use, broken button, 1 year of moderate use... You get the idea

Only time will tell

On my 1000 and my 2500 the REC button is always kinda wobbly. At first I thought they were bent or or partially broken (that white stress on the plastic prior to snapping).

In both cases it turned out each button was perfect but I put in new ones anyways. What it is in both cases it's that the PCB isn't 100% level and deviates just enough on the riser pegs/screws that the buttons don't sit perfectly flush on their little peg portion like the other 4.

With mass manufacturing I guess it's easy to see how a certain amount of them will not have the PCB perfectly flat. I figure if I didn't swap in new ones though eventually the one that doesn't sit right would break sooner.

And like I said before...you won't be hearing anything from me anytime soon. Badgering me about it will have zero impact.

Quite frankly, I believe you are being very unreasonable on this very topic when discussing quality control of mass produced products. We will have to agree to disagree.

I'm out.

Over time I've had to fix buttons, tact switches, and other minor things on my MPC 1000 and 2500, so I think anything that gets daily use will wear down in some ways. I've been using one of these machines everyday for almost 10 years now, and considering that, I think they have held up extremely well. I've always felt safe knowing MPC Stuff would have any parts I needed, and more likely than not, it would be an easy repair that I could do myself. What worries me about having the REN now, is how much more difficult it is to take apart to repair/customize etc. I don't want to have to send it in for little problems that I could always fix myself on the legacy MPC's. This is another reason I won't be getting rid of my 2500 even though I have the REN, it just hasn't been around long enough to know what parts are going to wear down first.
