And here is the 'useful' reply from akai:

Hello,

We are currently working on the 1.4 update. If you saw an image with another feature, this would be due to the version of the MPC software they were using.

We are currently working to perfect some of the SYNC issues. These are all being taken care of in the 1.4 update which should be released soon.

Never mind maybe when 1.4 comes out it may work or solve this. The picture the guy sent me from akai about the sync setting also didn't have check boxes like your picture did? I will just have to midi clock both machines to ableton.

Man you are out of luck there unless you want to use the MPC as a plugin. Until 1.4 comes out the MPC-R can only act as MIDI "Master" and not slave :/

That's the problem anyway. I have always wanted the Ren to be the 'master'. Weirdest situation re:midi I have ever come across? Never mind ableton can be the master clock. Just don't like the Ren acting as a plug in. Pain in the arse not having the ability to use the hardware and mouse click to 'overdub'.

At least the 2000xl syncs as a slave to ableton! :-) so in a roundabout way the problem is solved (kind of). Just not a hardware sync that's all

Fantastic News! Had a feeling 1.4 might do it as well.
