Sometime they (yankees) dont get our jokes, witty banter or sarcasm, but then we don't get the Second Amendment. So it's all a bit of give and take, and some agreeing to disagree. But, every so often something comes along that we can all agree on, something known as 'Cornball of the Year'...

have decided with doing the bones of the track on the mp , using the vst's as a sorta sound module, maybe popping it all to fl studio

I'll second the Focusrite recommend, sub $400 budget you really wont find more I/O or better drivers, maybe equal if you luck out, but the Focusrite are a sure shot.

If I could do it over again I'd have one those instead of this M-Audio Fast Track Ultra I use with my laptop, which while OK, I still hate it. Weakest output on any interface I ever had, the output sounds like you have -18dB set and you don't. And on Windows the "High Performance" button must be hit on the software GUI/Mixer to go below a 128 sample buffer. On 3 separate computers (stable, well maintained Quads and 8 cores) the button not only doesn't work it corrupts the OS on a kernel level. M-Audi o just writes a disclaimer "may not work but give it a shot"

I think it's ridiculous that a driver has unfinished or unstable code to simply use a 32 or 64 buffer. These i7's and Xeons I have certainly are up to it. Hell I had 32/64 buffer on single core $600 XP boxes.

M-Audio abandons their interface drivers like Akai and hardware MPC OS's, avoid all but the Pro Fire M-Audios. Some are Ok, but yo uhave sure bets like Focusrite right there.

Man those focusrite saffires 24dsp are good. IT's got adat port so if you get analog to adat (like a octapre mk2) you add another 8 channels ...
Has built in compressor to so if you record voks you got a nice phat signal..

AS you have the option to add 8 channels if tracking out your beats becomes a pain in the arse... it could become quite gay .. hehe

Consider the Digi 002 if Pro Tools appeals to you, can pick those up for £150-200. Obviously you get the software too, not just an 18 I/O interface with ADAT.

husky. I'm about to look at the spec sheet to remember what the 24 gives for the xtra fifty, but we never in this thread got into how the majority of modern PC Firewire is either not there port wise, or the ports controller is so god awful nothing will work on it.

PC manufacturers stopped using Texas Instruments and Agere Firewire controllers and most went to these absolutely terrible non-compliant JMICRON controllers to save like $5 at build costs. On my laptop no Firewire device on Earth works at all. The port may as well be made of cardboard. This is pretty much across the board for years now.

So maybe have a look at the USB Scarlett ones at Focusrite website. The 6i6 looks good but two less inputs at 6 than the Saffire 14.

You can buy a Texas Instruments Firewire PCI/PCIe card if it's a desktop, but USB might be your easiest thing here.

Yamahas are more accurate and flat, KRK's a little bit ""hyped". The KRK cause a little less ear fatigue after long sessions, so they work a tad better if you're doing iTunes and media players and movies with the monitors.

It's not tooo hard to learn the KRK's hyped sounds and just compensate in the mix, but without a doubt the Yamaha's are more surgical and flat in what they give you.

If I get a second set of monitors I would definitely get the Yamahas, I like my KRK's though. BUt I wouldn't mind a little more accuracy. The HS's and Rockits are near identical price in all sizes.
