Akai MG614/1212/1214 Multitrack Recorders

I did clint - its looking good. All the channels are clean, but the tape section isn't functional (and no tapes to check anyway!). How are you getting on with yours?

Well mine has been cleaned up. Took off all the knobs and slidercaps (never again!) soaked 'em, cleaned 'em with a toothbrush and cleaned up the board itself. Removed the wooden side panels, removed some stickers and grime, cleaned them up. I've got a few scratchy pots and an intermittent channel that I'll deal with. Tapes play nicely, the guy gave me his old band recordings and a couple of unused blank tapes. Not yet tried to record anything. Problem is the thing is HUGE, I've got nowhere to put it at the moment, but I'll sell it in a flash for the right money. I didnt need a mixer when I picked it up, but it was a deal i couldnt possibly refuse.

Hopefully I'll keep it until I've given it some good use, maybe I'll decide to keep it? Gotta grab some compressed air and contact cleaner, faders are smooth as butter. Opening the board to get internal access look to be a nightmare so I'll try to avoid that at all costs...Will post some pics, the studio room is a mess at the moment lol.

There are two Akai MG614's on eBay UK at the moment. One is in the UK the other is in Europe with international postage. Ill add links later, just in case anyone here is interested. Both appear to be in great condition and reasonably priced.

You know, I could pick up a Mackie D8B by myself and move it around. That MG1214 is just impossible for an old guy like me, I'll look up the weight of it actually. It left a dent in my wooden floor just from being stood up on its side.

Stevie how did you manage to get yours shifted around, or am I just seriously weak?

Its a mission Clint. Im pissing off my parents by leaving it at their house, until I can fit it in my house. Its a lovely bit of kit, but takes up serious room. It was a 2 man job to move it around too!

and i'm adding a wersi pianostar (fender rhodes style case, octave divider stuff inside though) to it next week

These things don't come up every day, get em while you can for less than a stock MPC60.

I really need the owners manual, I didnt get one with it and cant find out rhat the RCV outs and ins are for. I really have to find out !

Just recorded a new beat to the mg614

just picked up a MG614 up for $50, all the ins and outs sound great had to take it into my guy to get it cleaned up a bit. The red buttons are doing a little bit of a "dance" once in a while, hoping its just a loose connection somewhere.

Anybody have any more tips or want to post some songs that were recorded on to tape with it?

So if tracks 1, 2 & 3 are set to Bus A and recorded to track 4, you can erase track 1, 2 & 3. But when you want to record into 1, 2 & 3 again, how do you keep it in sync with track 4. Is this done by striping the tape with smpte code? if so what track would this be recorded on?
