my 5K turned 4 years old in February.. I think.
I've been wondering about this for a while..
so, if you go into the "other" tab from the main screen (mode, pad9) and then go to system (F4) on the top right of the screen it will show a fixed date. mine is 02.25.09 so I am made to believe this is the date of initial activation for my unit, a.k.a. my MPC's b-day.

the reason I am interested in this is because I have never had any problems with my 5K, it runs like a charm, though I know that many people have had a lot of issues with this model. perhaps a unit born on 02.25.08 would not perform the same? there has been a lot of talk about a lemon batch of 5Ks produced, it would be interesting to note the dates on those units.

so take a moment to check you unit's date, and then post a comment with it, along with how it runs. this isn't really going to achieve anything, other than satisfying my curiosity. thanks

Mine has the same date 02.25.09. No problems.

Well 99% of the problems with the MPC5000 are due to unresolved bugs in the actual operating system itself, so everyone's unit will have those same bugs no matter what date it shows on the hardware. These issues are unrelated to the hardware.

So saying you've never had a problem with your MPC5000 simply means you've never used the buggy functions, or simply haven't noticed or realised they were not working properly :)

Yup, what he said.

Also date of manufacture or 'batch' of the actual hardware can be determined from the serial number on most hardware MPC's. I haven't had a Numark MPC to check this but it applies to the older models and rack samplers dating back to the beginning of Akai Professional.

thanks for the feedback! ya, I know there are many functions I have yet to really test, therefore, bugs yet to find. the only one I have had an issue with is the time signature bug, but I found a work around (really though??...a sampler with an MSRP of $3500...CAN'T SAVE AND RECALL WORK PROPERLY OUTSIDE OF A 4/4 TIME SIGNATURE?!?!...embarrassing) but it's workable..

side story, I once found a bug, an actual living creature crawling around on the inside of the display. I tried to take a pic of it and post it here for a laugh, but it was so damn tiny I couldn't get the focus on it. it posted up in my MPC for like a week, and then I never saw it again. my little homie probably had a fight with the woman and had to lay low for a few days...
