Problem with Memory Upgrade

Hello everyone. I got a new MPC1000 recently, and was pretty bummed out by the 16MB internal memory, so I bought a memory upgrade as soon as I could.

The first two chips I bought didn't work. I figured it was because they had 8 memory banks on each side. 16x8 is the correct term I think. So, I bought one from mpcstuff.com, and strangely it also isn't working. MPC boots into BootBlock 1.03 and stops at 74% on pass 1:

pass 1 : failed(8c000000)
The problem was found in memory.
Please check the memory.
system halt

Does anyone know if maybe I have a newer model that doesn't acceot any 3rd party memory, or maybe it's some sort of a problem with the main board?

The first thing I would do is make sure that your MPC is on the latest OS. You can get this from Akaipro.com. Then, make sure you are seating the ram correctly and try again.

you bought incompatible ram... not all ram sticks are gonna work... there are entire threads on this forum dedicated to the topic [check the stickies]...

or to make it easier, just search for "mpc1000 ram" on ebay and you'll find very reasonably priced 3rd party ram that works as well...

Thanks for the advice guys, as it turns out the memory chip I was sent was part of a non-functioning batch of RAM and a new one is being sent.

I had a similar problem, except that the memory was working, for at least 6 months, I personally used it...my error happens at 49%

It reads like this:

Boot on SODIMM memory check mode
Total memory size : 128MBytes
Check memory......
pass 1 : failed(88000000)
The problem was found in memory.
Please check the memory.
system halt.....

Now don't tell me that I have incompatible memory because it is the actual Akai EXM128 and as I stated it was working fine for 6 months prior to this error.

It occurred after I attempted to update the OS to MPC1000 OS 2.13, but my memory card slot is broken so it couldn't boot the new OS. After that it only boots to this BootBlock screen.

I REALLY NEED HELP WITH THIS, I CAN'T DO ANY MUSIC...

this is bizaare but its been a long while since I had a mpc but the used one I fixed and brought states 256mb ram installed but on the boot up screen says 128mb installed?.

thats the max it reads.

Yes if you a had a 128MB one you would only see 64MB, its just how the machine use dual inline sticks. The official RAM is actually 256MB as well.

Often people miss the Clock Latency rating on the RAM. It needs to be CL3, if a stick has CL3 on the label its almost definite it will work. Many sticks neglect the label and its makes so little difference in a computer that some computer professionals I've met don't even know the CL ratings are on some stickers.

Some without a CL3 will turn out to be CL3 but without a label it's a crap shoot even if all other specs match.
