my oppinion:

i think this is the best time for akai to announce the mpc ren ii or "mpc hybrid" if you prefer. a hybrid of a standalone mpc and mpc fully intergrated with the pc through its own daw. the price off course should be about double the mpc ren cost though but thats not a bad thing cause people who love a hardware mpc will get the best mpc to date and people who are fine with ren will continue to buy it.

this update has taken too long and if it's not gonna be groundbreaking then i guess akai is loosing the train once again.

but i do not agree at all with people who say that akai should only release standalone mpcs.i think that akai was left behind cause it took them so long to go with the ren release.in fact mpc 5000 should never been released in my oppinion.they gave native instruments a clear advantange although they should had seen this coming since when roland had released the mv 8800 that was a superb maschine dispite the weird pads and weird workflow.

akai needs to finish the competition now otherwise it leaves a big door for people like roger linn to finally release the drumlinn ii as a standalone hardware and akai will left behind once again.

a standalone mpc 4000 in the size of the ren with the option of using it also with mpc ren softtware directly in your pc is gonna be unbeatable and a must have for anyone.

do you agree with this??

That would be suicide for Akai. What little faith people have left in Akai would be lost, even if the original controller is of course still supported with the updates. From what I have read here, it's not the controller, it's the software. Why not just fix that and then release a next gen controller after that situation is taken care of?

I'm of the opinion that it is waaaay to early to start talking about a Ren II, if you will. Especially while this one is still in its infancy - less than 1 year old.

cause if renn ii is gonna be a hybrid of ren and standalone mpc then it's not competitive with ren and will have double price.if roger linn or anyone else makes just a standalone machine akai is gonna be there to compete with their hybrid mpc, if not will loose customers.besides everybody wants a dope standalone mpc with the size of ren and software connectivity with the pc.now technology is able to offer that, why not akai??

true but if it's a different product it doesn't matter.let's call it mpc hybrid.

put their most enthusiastic activist under an all encompassing gag order.

as that activist has already "slipped" by mentioning ren mkII and "paid updates".

also.

akai should go against their reputation and actually commit to being the best by supporting those who have made strides in innovation and implementation in this "niche", instead of ripping them off...

and in the same vein, maybe have some actual mpc users develop what is being called an mpc....

basicly. akai should do the opposite of what the reputation of their business practices and product development has made them known for.

dawg they cant even get the ren sorted out right now, what makes you think that a ren/standalone hybrid will help them financially? It's just a bad move all around. In 2 years after the ren software is solid? Sure. But right now? Hell no

AKAI is definitely not ready to dwell in another MPC universe. They need to stabilize the current MPC before they can create a new REN. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the making right now tho.

New MPC colors wouldn't be a bad marketing strategy for the current REN. Imagine having multicolor pad LEDs or being able to assigned any color you want to your pad LEDs.

Akai would profit from a standalone MPC case with a built in monitor and mini pc. A all in one dedicated case will be off the hook. I would be willing to flick out another G for an accessory like this.

After probably around 50 (i didn't count but it's at least 30) crashes today I think that they should really focus on stability with the current Ren. They shouldn't even be thinking about anything else right now.

Yeah 2 is the only realistic option as nice as a new hardware MPC or some other dreamy concept might be.

Paid updates? Machine 2.0 is 99% likely to be that. Major point releases usually are.

I think the key there is to just get all minor point revision up to 2.0 in order, and then offer something that really goes new places at a paid update. And then I think most customers are cool with it.

If they were to just start charging for updates of the caliber and content you guys have received thus far, they're insane and it's commercial suicide.

mkII? I'm sure someday, but what's missing? a couple sliders maybe, bigger screen 5-10 extra F sized buttons? It would be hard to sell anybody on that. I'd say at least half the Maschine owner's find it's mkII terribly underwhelming and only cool in the sense you'd say "sure I'll take it if you're just buying in to the platform."

Maybe there's hidden code in my posts or something else if read backwards. Although I can't see any -

I think I'm going to shelve the Ren for a while. I worked on templates all day only to not be able to use them because of the constant crashing. I even tried the plugin version unloading all vsti onto another DAW but then it was crashing (and crashing Cubase as well as Studio One) just loading samples. Can't take it anymore, I want to make some music, not fight equipment all day.

I'll try it again each time an update comes out but I'll probably move on completely if it doesn't get better soon. So yes.. Number 2 is the only option, even then I don't think I'll buy anything else from AKAI in the future :/
