No direct triggering of samples, playback only [SOLVED]

Hi guys,

I already tried to find my answer on this board, but unfortunately i didn't found any solutions.

Here's my big question:

I just got a MPC3000 and i've read the manual and such. No problems programming it or whatsoever. Though when i try to program my beats, my sounds don't get monitored. I only hear them when i already programmed them.

Soooo how can i fix that monitoring thing? I would like to hear what i program !

This post is confusing as hell. You are loading sounds, sampling, and programming without hearing anything first? That's amazing.

Lol no i can (pre-)hear everything in program/sounds mode.
but when i'm in the mainscreen the pads won't monitor the sounds.
Unless i already recorded a certain pattern and replay it again.

How are you monitoring your programmed tracks?

Oke, when i recorded the patterns and press play, then the sounds will pop up.
If i just hit the pads, there won't come up any sound.

I got that part. My question is, how are you monitoring the MPC in the first place? Headphone? Main outs? Through a mixer? Etc.

ah sorry about that. Through main outputs. But got the same issues through the headphone output. Haven't tried the individual ones yet.

Do you have your pads set to Full Level?

Maybe Local Mode is set to off?
Check Midi menu option 2

drum/midi on main screen?

- Doesn't matter with full level on or off.

- Got my tracks on drum mode and still not hearing anything (except if i already programmed a pattern and play it back)

- need to check out the local mode. will get back to that!

Thank you deepah84. It was indeed the Local Mode that was set to off.
Put it back on and it's ready to rock !

Having a thread titled [Help] ironically isnt very helpful, so I've edited it.

What the MPC3000 manual (p.210) states about using LOCAL MODE:

"If ON, playing the pads causes the internal sounds to play as normal. If OFF, then playing the front panel pads does not send notes internally to the sound generator but does send notes to the MIDI output (if the active track is a drums track and the Play/Record screen’s Chn field is set to a MIDI channel).

In the OFF mode, the internal sound generator receives notes from MIDI but not from the pads. Setting this field to OFF is useful if you want to use the MPC3000’s pads and sound generator with an external sequencer. This allows the pads to send notes out over MIDI without playing the internal sounds directly, and allows the external sequencer to play the sounds from the MIDI inputs."

I advise resetting all system parameters whenever you acquire a used MPC60/3000, simply because there are so many settings which a previous owner may have personalised that could leave you scratching your head, as in this case. The settings for LOCAL MODE are saved in a PAR file, which means they are retained (by the litium backup battery) even when you turn the machine off.

See MPC3000 manual p.227-228 for a complete list of settings saved in a PAR file.

See MPC3000 manual p.66 for how to initialise your system parameters.

See MPC3000 manual p.172 for how to save a PAR file to disc (handy if your backup battery is dead).

Think of a PAR file as your MPC60/3000 settings template.
