I'm having a little trouble with this. Bear with me, it's been a minute since I've used the 3K. I have sample tracks and drum tracks going internally from the 3K. I'm using a rack for Bass. When I trigger the rack with the mode set to ON and the Chn set to the rack, the 3K triggers both the rack and the internal sounds. When I turn the mode to OFF, the 3K triggers the rack and not the internal sounds. All of this makes sense. But, do I have to keep on switching the ON and OFF? I ask this because there doesn't seem to be a way, although I'm sure there is, that I've found that will just trigger the external rack while keeping the mode on ON. As of now I've been switching the ON and OFF to record Bass tracks or switching the TYPE to MIDI after I've recorded it in DRUM mode. When I'm programming the rack with the mode set to DRUM and sounds to INTERNAL, I hear the 3K and rack, and that's distracting.

So basically, I'm looking for a little help trying to program sounds from an external rack while keeping the internal mode to ON, or, without all of this switching around. Hope I've made myself clear.

EDIT: Just to be clear, my current workflow is to change local mode to OFF, sequence rack in DRUM mode, turn track to MIDI, turn local mode back ON. Is that the proper and only way?

Yeah. I thought about that and it will work in this specific instance. Thing is, I set all my pads to chromatic and I play the pads like keys. Using this workaround would prevent me using certain notes, I guess....

Just did that right this second and it works the way it should. Im personally so used to banging out 16 levels bass that programming instruments on the pads comes quickly and naturally. I'll use the ACTUAL keys from now on. Problem solved.

Thanks fellas.

There are workarounds that will allow you to program rack modules from the pads. Using the MIDI track/keyboard method to play external racks/modules is the way Roger intended it to be. It will be in the manual somewhere in Japenglish...

I think I have a good idea as to the different ways that I can accomplish this using workarounds and the proper method which is good as I can use whichever method works for me at that time.

Crazy thing is, I can do all of this, and more of course, using my 4K without a rack or anything but for some I'm loving the 3K workflow right now and I can chop samples on it pretty damn fast.
