Using both mpc and maschine.

I don't want to start any kind of comparison thing or debate, I just want to know if anyone else is using both the Maschine and an MPC together??

I've had my mpc 2500 for about 4 years now (with os2xl) and absolutely love it but I don't take my beats 2 seriously because before anything else I am a DJ/Turntablist. I did some research and found out that you can literally drag and drop patterns from Maschine into Traktor scratch pro! This was a dream come true, I could make a beat, drag it onto a traktor deck, try a juggle out, if I wasn't feeling it I could add to it or edit it and then drag back in to traktor scratch. It's that easy, no mixing down, saving, renaming and what not.

As far as sequencing on the maschine......I'm not feeling it, it's probably an issue with me and not Maschine itself but I still can't drag myself away from the 2500. The pads on the maschine DESTROY the mpc's pads, they're incredible!! but still overall my happiness levels are much higher when I'm on the mpc and that for me is what its all about.

The amount of use the machine gets probably doesn't warrant me keeping it but like I said it's insane that you can drag an drop patterns into traktor and I've also started using it to control vst's, I can make a beat in the mpc ( I mainly use samples ) an if it needs anything extra I can simply record some kind of N.I instrument or whatever straight into the mpc. I suppose I'm pretty much just using the maschine to control plug ins to sample into my mpc, the odd bit of time stretching and the invaluable drag an drop onto a Traktor deck.

Do any of you use both mpc and maschine together? Any tips or tricks? reasons why?

I think you should look around the forums and do a search. MPC users have been using Maschine since it came out. It's seriously been discussed to death here, numerous times.

Sometimes I have both in Abelton at the same time. Lives MIDI routing is dead easy, almost like a virtual MIDI patchbay. You could probably have Maschines pads trigger the 2500 with not much setup. I suppose you could take it much further but if you really like the Maschine pads maybe even something that basic would be a huge plus for you.

You could either have the Maschine plugin output MIDI from the pads or make a quick template for controller mode and the a-d bank buttons and assign the pads to MIDI note numbers to match the MPC pads. it's so quick to toggle from plugin mode to controller a mix of both would be easy too.

There's always just dumping the Maschine library onto an HD in the MPC too, they are rather good sounds overall, although i think a minority of the files are 24 bit, mostly 16/44 though.

Yeah regarding the search, things come up but it's mainly debates about maschine vs mpc etc....I'm specifically looking for discussions that go over different methods of integrating the 2 machines and in what way they help or hinder different aspects of peoples workflow.

Just randomly mulling the Q. again...

Maschine automaps VST/AU fairly well to the 8 knobs gives you multiple pages when needed.

Would not be too hard if you have an audio interface to send the MPC's output to Mschine and use plugin FX superior to the 2500's FX, which in some cases I hate to say could bested by the higher quality freeware stuff like TAL Audio.

Maschine's not a DAW but to just catch processed loops on the fly would be no problem and pretty quick, sample editor as big as whatever your video monitor is. Send it right back to the MPC even.

Just watching for feedback loops routing wise because you have audio going both ways perhaps is the "hardest" thing there.

I love both the MPC and Maschine, the Maschine gets things done faster we can all agree on that and the drums are fantastic. I don't mind sequencing at all on the Maschine though there's not too much difference in the way I construct things between the two. At the end of the day I twist between the 2 but everything normally ends up in Ableton in some manner to finish.

They're just tools, at least I have something like a mpc on my surface to jam too

hey, acronym. I get what ya saying, mine literally sit side by side, it's sometimes nice to get away from that jog wheel sound of the 2500 to.

but....Man...I'm having problems doing something as basic as making the maschine pads trigger the mpc pads, I've never had much of a problem with midi before but this is doing my head in. So I'm on jj os 2xl, I'm using the button function in the mpc which is in the midi/sync menu and on the maschine i've hit shift+conrol (or whatever it is ) to get into controller mode. I can make the maschine pads trigger things such as play, play start, over dub etc etc but I can't get the pads to be the pads haha....if you look in button mode on osxl you'll see that pads are triggered by cc's but on maschine it seems the cc's are the rotary encoders..... I'm probably doing something embarrassingly wrong here. Any help would be massively appreciated!!!

I got it all sorted, it's absolutely quality for what I want to achieve. Another thing, you can turn shift into toggle mode which means that until you hit shift again everything will be in *10 or whatever it is increments. I'm not saying its ground breaking but quite cool for N.D.C'ing huge samples so you don't have to hold shift or tap tempo all the time.
