I need help with using the Ren as a plugin in PT

I watched videos made by Jah and a few other people, so I double checked everything and my midi routings etc...I have the Ren loaded up as a instrument plug in on track 1 in PT, on another track I have Xpand as an instrument on another track. I can trigger Xpand with the Ren but nothing seems to record into PT, just blank audio.

I realize I have to set my tempo, and arm recording/play through Protools. Some videos show Aux tracks being used, some show instrument tracks. Can someone clarify what is the correct way to set it up. I know the Ren goes on instrument track but what about the other tracks? Aux or Inst?I have come across multiple explanations that seem to conflict with each other. Honestly I had it working a few months back but now I just recently tried to get into it and it wasnt working. Might be user error but I could use some feedback here. thanks
