Mpc Renaissance Akai S950 combo?

This maybe a stupid question but is this possible? I'm dying to get that old 12 bit vintage sound, Without paying silly money on a vintage sampler.

The Ren can sequence any MIDI sound module/sampler to include the S950.

I just bought a S950 for the same purpose but haven't had time to play with it yet. I primarily will sample my drums/bass samples into it...save to disk and load into the MPC software....now that I think about it...not even sure what format the S950 saves in. SND, WAV, Akai S, etc?

Cool! I'm planning on doing exactly the same thing. Hopefully ill be picking up the S950 tonight. Ill report back with info next week.

similar story here. I really plan to use my s900 as sound design tool for my preferred sequencer. I dont even care what it saves things as. I will be resampling / recording samples out almost immediately for use else where.

Did you already have time to test it? I have a laptop so I would have to buy one of these http://www.amazon.com/1-44MB-USB-Extern ... B000M3GODW to transfer files from s950 to ren software without additional resampling/recording from s950 outs to ren ins. I would appreciate the information so I won't be buying an external floppy drive for nothing

I'm pretty sure the external usb floppy drives will not function; what you require is an old computer with in-built floppy drive, there is a program called omniflop which works well and can transfer your sounds

I just purchase a Roland VP9000 off ebay for $250. I always wanted one when it cost $3000.

Timestretching on it was suppose be the best on the market. Very good for remixing vocals and synth and beats. I'm planning to control midi into it from the ren and sample the output from the vp9000 back into the ren input.

If your interested there a couple of them on ebay now, as low $199.

you can get an old used laptop with a floppy drive for $50 or less... that's what i did.

So another additional device to the sound transport chain if u consider the old computer... not for me Do u have experience of the unworking usb-floppy drives?

And how about the s950 sound file format? Have anyone tested if the ren software can read sounds that have been saved by the s950 format?

i highly doubt it will read the format... just use the S950 as it was intended and control it via MIDI. the whole point of using the S950 is to use it's sampling engine and outputs... importing samples into ren software doesn't really seem like the logical workflow.

Don't own a Ren, but I'm just very curious about the audio signal flow of the S950.
Do you directly record it into the software like direct audio tracks?
And what if you want to run my S950 through an 8ins interface?

There's a few problems using ren's midi out to control s950.

1) You can't use ren's midi out while using ren as a plugin in daw.

2) In stand-alone mode you can keep your daw of course open next to standalone mpc software to get your separate audio tracks recorded from s950 into daw. This would require pushing daw's rec first on and then push play in the mpc stand-alone software. This way you should be able to use s950's own outputs and control the sampler with ren sending midi into it. But this way you miss the sync when recording for example two tracks at a time from s950 into daw(considering you have for example 8 tracks to record from s950 in total).

Dunno if Akai will add the possibility to use ren's midi out while using the software as a plugin in daw. Hope so.

Been having an s900 for sampling use for a while, but only started doing a beat with it yesterday, doing the sequencing on the Ren.
Works well.
