Just like that. I'd love to be able to duck at least some tracks (maybe 4?) or to trigger the same amount. Maybe this could be done by an extra 4 aux sends dedicated to S/C?

Just my thoughts.

two ways:

1. use a compressor plugin and link it (or insert) that plugin to the "instrument" you wish to duck, and have a muted kick prepared as a dedicated side chain trigger (sometimes not necessary). assign the instrument's compressor plugin to receive its signal from the muted kick (or whichever you want the selected instrument to duck). play around with the ratios. so that everytime the kick hits, the instrument ducks.

or 2. pre-automate the instrument's sample clip with the instrument sample clip's volume modulation drawn-in. so that everytime you hit the pad, it will sound like ducking. the only disadvantage of this is that it isn't intelligent, so it wouldn't duck accord to the kicks. this would only work on four on the floor type of beats.

haven't explored that area of the mpc studio yet, but that is how it would be done in general.

Unfortunately there is no way to route the audio in the MPC software to do side-chaining in the standard way.

You either have to buy a plugin that has a sender and receiver like dbaudioware sidechain compressor for example.

or

Automate the volume to mimic a sidechain (tedious).

or

Use a plugin that has user definable lfo's and can modulate it's own output volume like "LFO Tool" or "Fabfilter Volcano" and create an LFO pattern to match the way you want it to sidechain. This is limited because you need a different lfo for each part if your kick pattern changes often.

Pretty sure they'll work on it.. year 2013 and there's no side chain plugin? :hmmm:

I totally think they should expand on this by adding parameter modulation... As ducking is just one way of using a sidechain key.. You could use a audio signal to do many things, like affect the filter or perhaps the sample volume, in which you wouldn't need to even add a compressor to do it.. The incoming signal can modulate the parameter it's linked to..

REaper does this.. And so does Renoise.. Very well..
