Gotek Floppy Emulator for MPC60

@Food dude - have you tried the OSX Disk utility ?

I have a feeling what your trying isn't going to work with an external floppy drive as that's what all the info I've read suggests. Doesn't matter if your on Mac or PC. The problem is with the drives, not the OS/software.

For dealing with older floppy formats on Mac people seem to be recommending an old Mac with built in floppy drive and a program called Disk copy.

I did get it but I'm waiting on a new backlight, which should be here soon, and I'm going to slap everything in it at once.

so excuse me, but i was wondering if anyone has done any testing to compare the load times of the gotek floppy emulator with the load times of a standard DD floppy disk?

It's an EMULATOR. Do you know what that means?

Don't expect to see any difference in load/save times over a floppy disc. The selling point here is reliable USB solid state storage, the ability to hold the contents of up to 99 or 999 floppy discs, data retained on power down, and finally easier backing up of the USB drive.

If you want faster save/load speeds you need to use SCSI on the MPC.

What kind/size of Flash Drives do you guys recommend? I usually use Sandisk/Lacie stuff for my cameras/computers, since it's reliable.

Can you store more than 99 "720kb floppy" files per flash drive? Or is per flash drive maxed out at 99 files?

If, no (it's capped out at 99 files per memory drive), then a multi-Gb flash drive would be kinda useless/pointless, no? (as .72mb * 99 files = only 71.28mb..hardly even close to 1Gb flash drive space).

Also, I read it can maybe do 999 files... Can it?

Lastly, I opened the Op's first posted link, and it listed a 1.44mb version. Will this one work in the S950? Regardless, I think the 720kb version would still be great in the S950, even though only 720kb per file save, since it afterall has an ability to save a grip/99 files anyways.

I think the Sandisk Fit Nano would be the most attractive, aesthetically... since its' design is very low profile and hardly sticks out like typical flash drive (good for avoiding accidental bumps in the studio)... recommendations of other "low profile" flash drives similar to the FiT's design welcome.

To avoid accidental bump situations - when star session, set your usb partition, get the flash out, and work & save during the work process in internal buffer memory. Even if you reset MPC or lose power, all the saved work stays in emulators buffer memory, and waits for a safe usb transfer.

Locking this thread down, simply because there are currently two threads discussing exactly the same thing and people are asking questions that have already been answered in either thread. It's just getting a bit silly.
