Computer not recgonizing mpc

I just bought a used mpc1000 that doesn't seem to have any samples preloaded. It didn't come with a compact flash so I went out and bought one, ran a usb cable from the mpc to my computer so I can transfer some files on to it and still nothing. From what I understand I should just be able to hook it up directly as long as theres a flash card on the mpc and my computer will recognize it. Im neither able to get my computer to recognize anything nor am I able to access any internal samples on the mpc by hitting mode and load, nothing happens. Can someone tell me what may be the issue?

My computer is windows 7 that wont recognize my mpc, and when I hit mode/load/save nothing happens even though I have a new 2 gb cf card in it.

Do you know for certain that there are any samples in the limited internal memory in an Autoload folder?

Have you placed samples on the CF card using an inbuilt CF reader or a separate USB CF reader on your computer?

Did you format the CF card in the MPC as your first order of business?

What is the brand name of he 2GB CF card?

These are all pieces of info you'll have to let us know so there is a better cahnce of people here helping you figure this out. The more info you give the easier it is for people to try and help.

Also these are things that are the main stuff you have to check off a troubleshooting list in order to determine if you have an incompatible card or worse something is wrong with the USB/CF portion of your MPC.

So please post more info and hopefully people here can increase the chances to figure out what's wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't placed any samples on the cf card, I don't have a card reader. Wether or not theres any samples in an autoload folder I have no idea and don't know how to check. One thing that caught my attention is wether or not I've formatted the card... I haven't maybe that's the issue (I hope so). How do I do that? It's a sandisk

Sandisk usually work well. I've got a ton of the ultra ones here.

I forgot to ask what OS is in your MPC? Many of us have all the OS's and can load whatever one you have just so everything is equal in helping you investigate.

But on all OS's the formatting is basically the same in the same place. Hopefully a proper format will solve your issue, as the MPC won't show anything over USB unless you have an internal HD too and switch to that on the USB mount screen or the it's set to Memory Card and the card must be properly formatted to be visible in My Computer/Explorer(also should ask if you went to the USB mount screen in the list of troubleshooting stuff)

Generally to format go to the load screen (Mode+Pad 2) highlight Memory Card using the arrow keys and press Window to call up the format screen. Window is the method in a lot of cases to get into screens that aren't readily visible on the normal screens.

That seems to be the problem, pad 2 doesn't do anything. I tried renaming a program to test the pads and the entire lower half is unresponsive. The letters change with the upper half of the pads only. That may be proof enough that I was sold a defective mpc right? Even that I may have over looked and just purchased the upgrade kit had the seller been honest about it. But that being defected only tells me that my computer not recognizing it may be yet another defect. If theres no other solution that someone here may be able to suggest Im going to dispute the sale of a defected item (purchased for $395 and maybe not worth the cost of repair) and send it back. It does appear defective

Being that the unit is used I see no harm in getting a screwdriver and and maybe an ice cube tray or some cups to keep the screws separate (maybe even post it's to label what screws are which) and carefully removing the casing and front panel and check that all ribbon cables and smaller Molex/ATX style connectors are properly seated in their plugs.

They sometimes come loose during the shipping transit.

If you had the old pads, yes sadly is very common that the pad sensors die. On the first style of 1000 pads they die one by one as they are 16 separate sensors. If you do take a look inside the machine you may be able to notice some signs of whether those pads that are not responding have had the connective seal come apart or other signs of an issue.

But if you bought on eBay or otherwise have some buyer protection in place and know for certain the pads are dead you should have grounds for a return and refund, unless the sale was listed "As is". Even then if the MPC was represented by seller as all pads operational you still likely have grounds for a return/refund or at the very least grounds to file a grievance.

The seller sold it with a no returns policy which should have probably been enough of a red flag, but luckily I did ask about the pads specifically because I was aware that these blue mpcs had that problem, and the seller assured me that everything was working well, including the pads. Opening the dispute now I think Im in the right for a refund. Thanks for the help.
