Signal Flow/Wiring question...

Can someone please help/explain to me how I should be routing and syncing my signal flow, I have an MPC1000 which is the centerpiece of the studio where everything happens, I also have an E-MU Proteus 2000 sound module, that I would like to control with my Yamaha DGX-500 keyboard...how should I hook and set all this up to work right?

Looks like you're gonna need MIDI lesson 101.

I'm not that guy to explain it, but I'll tell you that you'll have to set the DGX500 to Master and set the Proteus to Slave. Also, MIDI Out of the DGX-500 to MIDI In of the Proteus.

I do not own those devices, but that pretty much what you'll have to do.

And remember MIDI is not audio.

1. Yamaha DGX-500 midi out, to MPC1000 midi in.
2. MPC1000 midi out, to E-mu Proteus midi in (Set your tracks midi output on the MPC1000).
3. MPC1000 and Proteus AUDIO outputs go to the INPUT on a mixer or audio interface, so you can hear sound from both at the same time.

The MPC1000 sits inbetween the keyboard and the sound module, which allows you to use the MPC sequencer to record notes but also trigger the Proteus. Turn 'Local' off on the DGX so that pressing the keys does not trigger its internal sounds, and make sure it is sending midi out (check the manual). No need to worry about MASTER and SLAVE at this point, but if you intend to use sync effect on the Proteus (Arpeggiators, Delays etc) the MPC would be MASTER and the Proteus would be SLAVE. Proteus will need to be put into MULTI mode (multi-timbral) or whatever E-mu call it, so that you can use instruments on all 16 midi channels at once. By default, on most sound modules you will only be able to trigger 1 midi channel and play 1 instrument at a time.
