Using Midisport Uno To Track Beats From The 2000XL...

Peace everyone, I'm trying to use the "midisports uno" to track my beats from my 2000xl, I'm really confused with the whole thing and really need some help to set up everything properly, I have Audition as my DAW. Thanks

so all you want to send is MIDI signal? i wouldn't refer to that as "tracking out"... are you familiar with the difference between midi and audio?

No I am not, I'm fairly new to the mpc world, but I what I want is to send my beats that I made on my 2000xl to my daw, I bought something called "midisports UNO" to do so. I heard tracking out means to transfer your beats to your daw, is that the right term?

The term usually refers to the audio portion of the process although having MIDI I/O is good too. The MIDI allows you to control software instruments, record the patterns/note data in your MPC to a recording software app or also have MIDI tracks in a software app trigger the MPC.

You can record the output of the MPC into a computer's stereo 1/8" input from the stereo 1/4" outs of the MPC. You'd need to mute parts of your song to get multi tracks in the recording app so you would have maximum versatility to do a good mix in the computer to make your final product.

But the 1/8" input isn't very good quality, so you usually the audio version of the MIDI interface you have. MIDI is only trigger data not carrying the sound/audio itself.

Most audio interfaces have the MIDI too but if you wanted to buy one you could look at one without MIDI because you have the MIDISport already. But again it's rare that audio interfaces don't have both.

Do even 30 minutes of reading on this site and it will all be a lot clearer to you, and then any questions you need to ask here will be easier to formulate. Once you have the basics down with some reading you'll be a lot clearer on the generalities of what you're trying to do, and I guarantee already feel the progress you've made just off that, from there it just gets easier. But the basic terms and methods are a must to understand in the beginning or it will be headaches around every corner.

Thank you for responding, so basically I bought the midisports for no reason? I have I buy an audio interface to transfer the audio to my daw? Anything else?

Yeah always a good investment.

Like I said there's a few with no MIDI to make them more portable. And if you're going to stick with making beats for awhile you never know you might need two sets of MIDI I/O.

So don't feel too bad about only getting half of the Input/Output you need here at the beginning where it's always confusing at first.

When you know how much you can spend we can help you find the most for your budget.

But if you already have some DAW software yes a basic interface is all you'll need for now. And again you could use a $10 Radio Shack cable to the 1/8" input on the computer, but the recording will not be nearly as good as even a budget interface. Interfaces tend to last years and years without issue they just sit on a table or shelf or whatever and as little $150 can get you a decent one.

If you use any computer based instruments they will work and sound and much better and respond faster if you use the MPC or a MIDI keyboard to play them.

So you get value for whatever you spend.

Yeah those are decent I have the ultra version of that one, I only use it on my laptop, I have a different one for my desktop.

Volume is little lower on those ones. Not the recordings you make but the headphone output and the output if you plug power monitor speakers into the interface.


Do you have the 8 outputs on your MPC? that won't take them all out once, but again you can just mute tracks and record in a few passes until you all your MPC tracks are recoded separately in the DAW app.

Presonus has some around that price too, one is $150. There some other for in $200 range.

Sites like Sweetwater have user reviews and star ratings so you could type in a budget and see a few different ones.
