Just chiming back in here to say that I actually got the cost of repairs covered by the guy I bought it from, and a friend of mine and I soldered on some new tact switches, and they're working just fine! Just waiting for that harddrive now. But, point is, happy ending - not everyone on the internet are trying to scam you! :)

No, Akai just should have used better tacts and plastics. :? :)
