Just read read you signature,... I wish I had never sold my MV8000 :(

 That's how I felt after trading my first 8800 for MPC 4000 yrs back, holding onto this one plus it has 8 output expansion

Lucky you mine crashed today quite often in standalone mode without any 3rd party plugins

I have updated every single driver I can in my system using a driver agent (java, flash, nvidea, asio, etc). Not sure if it matters, but for PC win 7 64-bit 16mb ram with all drivers updated it has been fairly solid relative to 1.3 (which pissed me off regularly)

1.4 is a pretty good update...only bug issue I've noticed was that u can easily freeze and crash the software by viewing the undo history and trying to go to a specific undo period but other than that bug it's pretty good...I like the fact that I can now trust the undo/redo from the hardware....if anyone is thinking about getting the Renaissance now is a great time due to this update...this is where the software should have been at 1.0 ....alot of previous complaints about the software were very valid due to the fact that akai flat out put out an unfinished product...but overall to stay on topic about this update...I'm relieved and can finally start making music without worrying about complications in the software.

based on the fact how bad it previously was or general quality of the product in comparison to its alternatives :hmmm:

in my opninion good time is when you dont have to deal with headaches

I uninstalled my Digi002 rack and that bug I mentioned previously about it crashing when u use the undo history is gone so this update is actually more stable than I thought.

Faster ? For me it became slower, especially when switching from Sample Edit back to main.

If we consider the "general quality of the product", it is very good, in comparison to its alternative, wich is good too.

1.4 truly showcasing Akai's commitment to these new MPCs. I have been loving the Ren since 1.0....1.4 takes it to another level. I enjoy telling guys 'I told you say'....

Just wait to you see what is up next. Of course, I will expect the same guys saying that it is what 1.0 should have been (which is stupid...by the way). I will probably be getting rid of my hardware MPCs (with the exception of the 3000) and MV soon as I rarely turn them on.

Thanks for the education and advice Metatron. I really appreciate it. What I want to do is to make Logic the master and REN the slave. I just want to be able to, via MIDI, open REN as a VST/ AU inside of Logic, assign internal REN sounds to REN pads inside of REN VST, start record on Logic's sequencer, hit the REN's pads, have the REN's MIDI out data recorded into Logic's sequencer, stop Logic's sequencer, Return to beginning of sequence via Logic's sequencer, hit play on Logic's sequencer and have Logic play back the sequence I just recorded with REN's internal sounds.

I hope that I don't come off as a smart a$$, and I truly love my REN period. It's just that this functionality seems so second nature with today's technologically advanced DAW's, plugins and their respective architectures, that I'm just absolutely and utterly baffled as to why this either can't be figured out with the REN or the functionality was intentionally left out of the REN. If the REN was never designed to be a DAW as some here believe, then why cripple it's ability (it has MIDI ins & outs) to be fully MIDI integrated into a DAW? I understand that REN integrates better via MIDI into PT than Logic but so ******* what? I prefer Logic.
(whew) End of rant.

Pete, if you ever read this, I want to personally thank you for all of the dedication and hard work you've put into 1.4 and making the REN my most beloved piece of gear, seriously. I know you are hard at work making it even better. At some point, would you please address the REN's MIDI implementation into Logic? Again, thanks Pete and be Blessed!

Yesssss.......
+1

Out of respect to the OP, 1.4 is the shiz so far for me. Absoultely lovin it! :-D

Now, don't wanna beat a dead horse BUT I'd be quite happy leaving the REN as the master and using its transport controls to control Logic, as long as I can record REN's MIDI output into Logic's sequencer. Possible/ easier/ more or less realistic anyone?

1.4 is what 1.0 should have been and here on out I consider actual updates..akai was not reinventing the wheel when they came out with 1.0, they just flat out left out regular standard features that they already knew they were going to add...for example (Support for Bank Select and Program Change MIDI messages.) a standard in previous MPC's and ( Support for VST and Audio Unit plugin preset selection.) a standard and one of the reasons for the REN working with VST... these were considered new features for the 1.1 update...really!!! What if they came out with this product but didn't put the sequencer in it...and then they decided to put the sequencer in it on the next update..would u consider that an update or a an unfinished product they just decided to release? 1.0 was that unfinished product but now it's ready for updates and new features....Later.

I really hope we don't get the same pointless arguments going again, and go back to the streams of of locked threads. It's been nice around here the past week. Felt like a more professional forum.

1.4 is what 1.0 should have been....

That is your opinion. But 1.0 is exactly what Akai intended it to be. It would be a waste of time debating this. The feature set of 1.0 was made available months before the product hit the streets. From the start they had a road map for continued development to add 'new' features. This will be accomplished on Akai's timeline.

While 1.4 is great, I have a feeling that 1.5 will have the same impact on the Ren/Studio that the 1.5 update had on Maschine.
By BremenCole Thu Jul 04, 2013 10:16 pm
And 1.5 on Maschine was huge. I think you may be right. Akai has brought the software well into the useable stage, now perhaps they can take it to the next level.

No, it is not.!
It is just plain common sense.
Come on Jah, not even a hardware scroll/zoom function on 1.0. :Sigh:

I love this update.!

peace :smoker:
