MPC5000 or Renascence?

MPC5000 or Renascence?

Hey guys im new to the mpc world, I been playing with imaschine, beatmaker and always wanted an mpc.... i got a maschine and someone traded me a mpc5000 for it

it works fine but i just find the loading samples and saving kind of tedious and slow workflow....

is the mpc5000 pretty much the same as the older versions? should I keep or trade it for a renascence? does the 5000 have jjos?

I think all of this has been discussed in abundance here. do a quick search in the 5000 forum section.
no jjos. only akai's os2.0. The 5000 is the same in the sense that it is a standalone. it differs in the fact that it has a synth and a load of i/o.

But I can tell you this. if you come from a Maschine sort of workflow (controller and computer) but you arent feeling the slowness of loads and saves of the 5000 I'd say get a Ren. I personally use a 5000 and more and more now the Studio. I think the 5000 is powerful and the synth is dope but the MPC Software is so much more flexible

simply put if the Ren is calling you and you can pull it off I cant see you bing disappointed with the Ren and MCP software. and it will get you back to those faster load times and all the soft synths that you can bare.

Thanks for the input the biggest selling point for me on the mpc is the standalone use without needing a computer... Would upgrading the ram make it quicker?

I did like the maschine software never used the mpc one though

Can you give some examples of the MPC5000 loading times? Saying that the MPC5000 is "tedious and slow" could describe any hardware sampler when compared to software, if you're not used to working with hardware.

Often people moan about loading times, as if a few extra seconds is that detrimental to workflow. If you're obsessed with speed, go with software based products like the Ren/Studio or Maschine.

Had the 5000 and sold it after one week, because it didn't have much advantages compared to the 1000 with JJOS. The synth is nice, but standard and if you want to use it live you have to switch through popups all the time. Annoying. The audio tracks are ok but limited. Everything else is quite similar to the other models. The fan of the 5000 is way too loud. The whole thing didn't feel right for me.

My personal opinion: if you don't want to use a laptop, get a 1000 with JJOS.

With the 1000 how many tracks can you have??

I guess just loading times and frustrating saves and loading samples and projects


But I never used an mpc before

The saving part is what got me the most I guess I just need to work on it more

64 tracks per sequence. With JJOS1 the last 8 tracks are audio tracks (don't know about the others). But keep in mind that those audio tracks have to share a max memory of 128mb, so it's quite limited.

Ill have to look into the jjos

When you compose your beats to do you transfer track by track or stereo output to the daw?

Depends on the song. Sometimes I need single tracks, sometimes the master out is just fine.

Sorry I'm new to this and I want to learn the right way

So I compose a beat I can just master out to a stereo file or would track by track be better to eq and stuff??

Or are there ways around stuff if I have a piano melody and a drum sequence can I master out or should I track it.... I have a few old beats that I love however I did them all on one track on Cubase is there a way to fix the eq or would it be better to recreate it sounds good to me tho

It really depends on what you do. Sometimes I create just a drumloop on the MPC, so recording the master out is fine. On other days I do half a song on it, so I need to record track by track. I do the EQing stuff in both cases in my DAW.

Oh okay do you track by track via USB or using analogue outs?

man what a good point on the fan. it is loud.

but as for the synth its a good synth for studio use. good to learn on considering most cats arent too advanced on synth programming. I kind of think the nav of the synth is not a big deal as most will not use it live anyway. its too damn big to be hauling around. :lol: :lol:

Right. I get so tired of non-live working producers saying this. A few extra seconds will not kill you. Seriously, it's only a few extra seconds.
