using the ren with a daw or just by itself

i'm toning down studio due to money and time
sold my xf sold my mpc studio and brought a ren i'm getting more into its daw so now i'm thinking about selling my copy of cubase 7
what im thinking is doing is to just use the mpc ren and software on its own and add some plugins currently have halion sonic + halion player thinking about getting an arturia keylab when it comes out and u get a few sounds with that
i have the pro tools express may have a play around with that
what i want to know is
is anyone using it on its own, sequencer ,daw wise what do u think about this does it hold you back ,
do u think its capable ,
what do u miss from other daws
do you think it can hold its own or should it used as a plug in in another daw

Me personally, I feel like it depends on what your work flow. If your strictly a sampler, I think it works well for stand alone work. I think if your using it for a lot keyboard and synth work it may be best used as a plugin simply because the midi editing options aren't as advance as a protools or logic yet. Also if your doing a lot of multi plugin routing and etc... You may run into small issues with porting it over into pro tools without having to solo each instruments and exporting it.. So with that i'd say plugin mode would be best. It just depends on your personal needs.

What's wrong with cubase 7? I was thinking about getting that

nothing wrong with cubase been using it since i had an atari stuck with over the years as i knew my way around it but now i have this mpc and it sort of works within cubase but not the way i expected though i aint tried it since 1.4 and im finding it a bit of a workflow killa
i 'm liking the workflow and ease of use of the mpc tho sequencing is slightly different than in cubase so im thinking do i need cubase (sold it this afternoon for 275 so there no going back) or another daw (logic pro 9 is 120 in app store)
what cant i do in the mpc with some plugins what i could do in a daw .
just asking for some opinions
now i've sold cubase i'm gonna just use the ren on its own for now and see how i get on tho i have got pro tools express to check

My opinion is to keep your DAW. 1.4 fixed most all of the issues I was having using it within the DAW, but I record externally real instruments/vocals/etc and the MPC software just doesn't really give me anything more than a sampling drum machine with a cool interface. It will be a cool instrument for live interaction, but I say keep the DAW and try out 1.4.

Cubase has got literally hundreds of features that the Ren hasn't, but in reality it would be the lack of audio tracks, mixing flexibility and limitations with automation that would prevent me from ditching a full DAW for the Ren.

Whatever floats your boat though.

you can't sell software these days.. if anything, you will lose about 50% of your cost. craigslist won't work & ebay might be a maybe.

chances are still slim even if you have the original packaging and proof of de-activation.

can't you use cubase as a mastering software? i tried selling my ableton for half a year because the workflow seemed too focused on loop triggering and live recording.. it just wasn't involving or expressive enough. but i decided to keep it and use it for last mixing stuff.. either I sell a $499 software for $100 or I make the best out of it!

Like mike said, it's gonna be pretty hard to sell the software.. And there will be many features that cubase has in terms of mixing, plus the audio tracks, automation, that will just be much better than just using the mpc software by itself..

The money you will get for sellling vs mixing features alone you lose is not worth selling..

i sold it the yesterday for 275 uk pounds it was quite easy to sell
i sold cubase 4 , 6, 6.5 , and 7 6.5 and 7 were downloads had to buy another usb key which u copy the licence too thus unregistering from your account bloke even picked it up .

fully understand what id be missing by just using mpc daw on its own and how advance other daws not to mention some of the 100s of features id miss out on .
so i think i'll get another daw i think maybe logic 9 as its £139 or i could have a play with pro tools express and maybe upgrade to the full version if i feel i need too.
which daw works best with the ren if any pro tools or logic ?

different over here in southern california.. one simply does not pay for used software. you either pirate it, or you buy a brand new one

whichever layout you feel most comfortable with. daw are almost all the same when it comes down to final mixing. just go on youtube and research it. when you buy a software it's just mainly preference of the layout & whoever presents it to you with more confidence with better tutorials.
