Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

I noticed a weird bug? If I use the mpc on batteries it makes a constant sound (similar to leaking gas or something). It also changes its volume when I move the volume knob, its loudest @ min or max volume and most quiet around "10-14" (viewed as a clock). I dont notice it when its playin but its quite annoying when making changes with headphones on. It vanishes instantly when I plug in the adaptor. Is my unit faulty?

Need fresh batteries, or plug it in and leave it on for a few hours, but make sure the batteries are removed. You probably was loading or saving files while the batteries were low. A computer gets a little intoxicated when power is below its minimum capacity so it'll do and go places it normally doesn't.

This kind of reminds me of a problem I had with my monitors once. They were designed with a capacitor in the volume control circuit whose job it was to suppress crackles and pops resulting from dust getting into the control pot (you may have experienced this with old mixing boards). Somehow the capacitor went bad which resulted in a loud background hiss whenever the monitors were powered up. I eventually solved it by bypassing the capacitor with a jumper wire.

I'm not suggesting it's the same problem here, but I'm leaning towards it being a hardware issue. Either that or try different batteries--rechargeable NiMH for example.

but are they from the dollar store or something??

have you tried with some duracells or energizers? you may have been sold weak batteries.
