Hi,

For my live performances, I load a 300 MB project with multiple samples, etc. (I tried breaking the project in multiple different projects, but my bug still happens.)

I trigger everything live.

While playing, I ALWAYS get glitches and sound cuts after the first few beats while playing. Let's say this is not cool when you perform live.

So to avoid that, at the end of some beats, I press "Stop" three times to "reset" the CPU. I really don't like doing this because it breaks the seamless routine I have created and practiced for so long. Anyway, if this is what I have to do to avoid glitches while playing, so be it.

BUT: when I hit "Stop" three times, I get glitches while hitting the "Stop" button!

Here are some examples:

http://dstr.lafacade.com/mpcforum/glitch_01.wav - Here, you can hear the beat glitching and repeating every single time I press "Stop".

http://dstr.lafacade.com/mpcforum/glitch_02.wav - Here, you can hear the voice sample glitching and repeating every single time I press "Stop" as well.

http://dstr.lafacade.com/mpcforum/glitch_03.wav - Here, you can hear the end of the last sample played repeating when I press "Stop" as well.

http://dstr.lafacade.com/mpcforum/glitch_04.wav - Everytime you hear something repeating, it's me hitting "Stop".

What don't I understand? I can't have glitches while playing live. My MAC is boosted to the max, and I tried in both 32 and 64-bit modes.

MacBook Pro
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 BG 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
OS: 10.8.4

Thanks!

mpc renn? or are you using a separate sound interface with mpc studio?

I have glitches too, but when holding down SHIFT key for a while in the Ren.
For example when trying to zoom in the Sequencer...

Thanks! I tried 1024, but the latency was unbearable. I'm on 640 right now, and it seems OK.

To all the live players out there:

• What is your Audio Buffer Size of choice?
• Do you tweak the Latency Adjust?

More than likely yes. But even then you only have the two cores.

CPU load at 256 samples is double that of 512 samples, 128 quadruple that of 512 and so on. And you're pounding only one half of your CPU. That CPU is also older and doesn't run as efficiently as a newer i3/i5/i7 at the same clock speed even though those would also be only utilizing one core, 1/4 of the CPU in those cases.

Those CPU's go back to 2006, and were discontinued over two years ago. They aren't going to be able to keep up with the demands of modern software and coding more and more now. If you get a computer with a newer Intel quad, you're problems will more than likely vanish.

Also most RAM nowadays is DDR3 and speeds of 1066 Mhz are far common than the slower 667 Mhz DDR2. Also the latest ML 10.8.4 is going to tax the overall system all the more as you're on the low end of the suggested spec.

Might be time for a new computer.

Funny you say that: my computer just died this morning. Have to fix my motherboard. $800 of repairs + one week of waiting.

Freaking out.

I know... But with shows around the corner, and being on vacation, this is the only time I have for music right now, and for a while.

On top of that, my Renaissance and all my Waves plug-ins are authorized to my laptop. So if I switch computers right now, I'm going to go through another form of hell altogether, you know?
