someone posted detailed youtube setup of live and ren while back, can't remember thread it was in but you should be able to dig it up on youtube. it's not hard if you know basics

Yeah..I was able to do the Clip/Plugin with the Ren and Ableton. But in this video The MPC Ren is the master sequencer, and he is sequencing ableton midi tracks / VSTi in the MPC ren... Ableton is pretty much used as a sound module (just like reason).

Used to do this with all my older MPC. Was able to bring up a drum rack, operator, etc.. and sequence those sounds with the MPC via MIDI.

In this video, he is doing the same with the ren, cause the Hihat on there 1st track is coming from kontakt in ableton, and the sequnece data is be recorded in the MPC ren...

Just looking for a clue on how it was set up, considering setting up midi is a little different for the ren vs doing it with the hardware.

Also, the video date would indicated, that the OS version was possibly some where between 1.0-1.2???

If you're on a Mac it's very simple.

You need to set up virtual MIDI ports in the Audio MIDI settings on your mac. Create an IAC driver and choose it for your output ports on the Ren software and the inputs in Ableton live.

The other option would be to literally hook a MIDI out port on the back of the Ren to an input with a MIDI cable. Turn off the input in the Ren preferences and choose that one in Ableton. (don't worry you can't damage anything by making a MIDI loop on your hardware).

Thanks Airyck... Just tried the later, with the physical midi cable, since that was the way i was able to achieve the results i wanted in the past when i had an MPC 2000xl/2500.. But it didnt work :?

I am on mac, But have never had to use IAC for my setup in the past cause everything was synced/working properly. So, i dont really know how to properly setup IAC.

But i have been trying to figure this out using the IAC route, but i must be setting it up improperly.

It looks like your IAC is setup correctly now you just need to make sure you have the proper MIDI ins and outs selected in Ableton and the MPC. You are sending MIDI from the MPC sequencer into a track in Ableton. Ableton will see this like any other MIDI input (keyboard, pad controller, or whatever) so you have to choose the correct MIDI input in Ableton and make sure you have the monitoring active (sorry haven't used Ableton in a while). That should be it...

OK...Getting close....

-I am using MPC Ren as stand alone

-Using ableton live 9 w/PUSH

Now, what just happened is that i am now able to print midi note data with ableton push, into the MPC ren's sequencer as if it is any other USB midi controller (good sign)....

Image

The problem now, is that the note data from the Ren's sequencer, is not trigger the sound from Ableton...
Also, this seems to only work when the ableton midi track is set to "All Channels".. When i should be able to use midi channel 1, midi channel 2, etc.. for individual sounds/plugins, as with the video from above..

In Ableton turn on "Track" for the IAC Driver (MPC MMC) input.

In the Renaissance preferences for at least one of your MIDI output ports you need to select the IAC Driver (MPC MMC) for the output.

In Ableton on the track you want to control with the Ren change the "MIDI From" to the IAC Driver (MPC MMC).

Choose a MIDI track in the MPC Ren, write some notes, make sure it's sending out to the right PORT that you chose the IAC Driver in the MPC preferences.

You should be good to go...

THANK YOU Airyck!!!!!! It is working! :)

Would you know how to slave the Ren back to Ableton, so that if i hit the play button on the push transport, it will also play the MPC ren??

It's almost set up and running like i had when i was using the MPC 2500 or 2XL or 3K. The slave piece is the last part of the puzzle..

Thank you very much!!!!

Not sure about 1.4 update, but I believe prior to it MPC Ren can only be master, it did not support being slave
