Similar to 1200s and vestaxPMC

What would be a (close to) equaly solid set up? Heard about some "clones" that ae meant to be Good enough. Or even made in the Same factory. To the Point of actually being the same, identical build, just with another Name on it, and a lot cheaper..

maybe a 70s era panasonic direct drive turntable? panasonic is technics right?

unless your talking about mixers... dont know of any quality vintage dj mixers...

Audio-Technica AT-LP120 looks like a decent technics sl1200 clone, but for the price i'd just get an actual used technics... vestax ain't too pricey either...

1200s are expensive, Even used. Panasonic is technics? Didn't know that.. I know about pioneer though..
What about Gemini mixers? Any good?

Had the ATPL's they are alright, i have a1210 mk2 now and feels way better. The atpl was my first turntable and i personally liked it but immediately felt the difference first time i played an 1210 mk2. Way better build and feel and about the money it was almost twice the money, not quite twice as much but around there

technics sl1200 mkIIs can be found used for $250-300. i wouldn't really call that expensive for the quality you get and considering what most turntables go for.

cheap stuff ends up being expensive in the long run. it's better to invest in quality off the bat.

GEMINI is real shitty quality. you already know what you want. technics and vestax. don't settle for less.

If you are wanting a new deck, I would recommend the Stanton ST150. Reviews on them are good, and they seem to be a solid direct drive turntable.

Thing is.. I'm going halves with a friend. So I'll have to persuade him, and he's a bit on the cheap side... You know.. Bargains ... Features for money and all that..
He says with the vestax, for instance, u'd be paying more for less... And the quality (of technics and vestax) is overrated and therefore overpriced.
I doubt that.. Highley ( they are classics for a reason, right?) but I have no proof... Never got to Test it.

Uuuh.. That looks nice.. I like the idea of that spdif going straiht to the mpc, for different sonic.

Mixer wise the DJ Tech DIF-1S 2 channel scratch mixer has been getting some great reviews for a budget mixer (it even impressed DJ Q-Bert, that he released a limited edition Thud Rumble Version) Check out the review from the dj worx site

Turntable wise you could go for the American Audio HDT-4.5, Numark TTX-1, Kam DDX5000, stanton ST150, Technics 1200 or 1210, Vestax PDX 2000/2000 MK2, 2300/2300 MK2 or 3000/3000 Mix or the 3000 MK2.

your friend has no idea what he's talking about. plain & simple. it's gonna be up to you to persuade him to do the right thing. the quality isn't overrated... he's just being a cheap bastard.

that slim vestax you could probably get used for under 200 bucks.. why not. The one thing I can say about them is, low noise. shit dj mixers buzz, or are noisy (in my experience, not that I have seen or used many many different ones.. just a few).. that vestax has less... good. less to go wrong, and for scratching are you going to use a 5 band EQ with sweeps, on board fx, 5 channels, built in XLR mix inputs.. and all that? no, I doubt it... however that slim vestax has one great thing.... two master outputs. one to connect to monitoring, and you can send the second to a recording device... dope.

As mentioned above... shit gear is more expensive than good gear. Buy once, you got it for years... buy garbage and you are replacing it every 6 months, you cant pump it through a big PA system without the fear of noise... and you cant do shows without the fear of it **** up... (especially while transporting it to the show)

Don't get me wrong I've got a lot of love for Vestax for what they have done for the turntablism community (they have done more then they are credited for) but if I had £200 quid, I would personally spend the cash on the DJ Tech DIF-1S or if I wanted be a show off may the limited edition Thud Rumble TR-1S version But serious over here in the UK for £130 quid you can get the DJ Tech DIF-1S. It's a solidly built no nonsense plug in and play, budget 2 channel scratch mixer fitted with a mini innofader that can hang with the big boys.
