Maybe you're not going to the "Part" field and selecting a program for the part?

When I go into the part field I see everything loaded and it says their all off. Ill turn them to 1 or 2 and still wont here anything when I hit pads. If I go into the sample screen I can hit the play button and here all the samples fine. Also if I hit a pad it plays it as well. Its probably something so stupid i'm looking over or am not programming right.

So after reading through some of the manuals I realized I needed to hit the right cursor when in the file view field to acess another level of the file. I continued my normal loading process as stated in my earlier message. Still I have no sounds on the pads :( BUT.... this time I noticed the sequence BPM was turned down to 90 on the main screen! I hit the play button and it started to play what ever I had loaded into the part field and multi fields. Only thing it was missing was a snare drum. It was playing kicks and hats and some samples and they were timed together correctly. I assume this because I bought the 4K used and its previous owner must of had a program/s stored in the internal hard drive to which their are many files in there. Some times it will just load sounds for an hour! I also have a cd with sounds aswell but I'm still struggling with getting a sound assigned to a pad. its so simple on XL lol load AllProgram, Do it, done...

It's simple on the 4K but there's multiple ways of doing it. When you turn the machine on are there any Parts loaded by default? You can check this by going into the Mixer. If it's blank then you need to create your own Parts so you can assign Programs to them.

Multi -> Mix -> Open Window on the blacked out part at the top and create a bunch of Parts. My Autoload folder fires up the machine with 32 Parts to save all the dicking around.

If you've got Parts then all you need are Programs to assign your sounds to. It's the same procedure to above but in the Program screen. When you've got your Programs sorted you can assign a Program number to them in the Program List screen, and from there you should be able to assign your Programs to tracks by simply scrolling through the Part number towards the bottom of the Main screen.

Assigning sounds to pads can be done by the dedicated Pad Assign button, but I tend to use the KG Mix or Zone fields. Have a play and see how you get on. 8)

Ok, so by staying in the "see all files" view I dug deep through folders and loaded "songs" and "Seq" "Progs" "multi" "Samples" all at once for that file. Its loading up "Seq's" and "Songs" (If any were created) I can see programs in the prgz list, I can see samples in the samples list, I can see a multi in the multi list. They are all set to off. Before I change any if I hit the Play button/Play Start a sequence begins to play. I can go into the "Next Sequence" screen and see all the availible sequences and even mix and change them up yadda yadda yadda. So I do believe Iv gotten that down. What I want is to be able to push a pad and here a sound like a drum kick or a snare or a sample that I can slice. I go into the "Pad Assign" window and can see samples and pads loaded with hats and kicks etc. But when I hit a pad nothing plays. I notice that the little output bar in the track screen jumps up when im playing a sequence. Does the Input need to be registering? cause mine isnt doing anything.

If you want to we can discuss this over skype later tonight while I am in front of my MPC and you are too. Or over the phone if you want to call me. I can PM you my number. Are you in the States?

This way we can go over this step by step. Up to you.

Cheers,
Ian

Wow thanks everyone I appreciate everyones advice. I'm in Stamford CT, about a 30 min train ride to the city. I'm starting to think my pad sensor might be bad :( but I can here samples in trim screen when I hit a pad so I dunno I'm baffled and starting to feel defeated

You're not assigning your Programs to Parts correctly. Everything you've mentioned points to that being the problem.

In the Program List screen assign a number to each Program. From there choose a Part number on the Main page on track one (the default is 'Part: 1'). Cursor right one click so you're in the Program Field and spin the Jog Wheel. This opens up a Program List popup. Select your Program and press Select.

Follow this procedure for all your Programs and every Program will be assigned to a Part, and you can then scroll through them via the Part number on the Main screen.

With a single program loaded and assigned the screen should look something like this.

Anyone have a YouTube video of this? Because I'm still not understanding why I can sequence someone else's work in here but cannot make a beat from scratch
