saving keyboard info on 4000

storing PCG dat on the MPC i am the owner of a triton classic and an mpc-4000.......i am new to MIDI....when i hook the two up via MIDI it is suppose to be a monster i wanted to know how would i set up the triton/mpc to actually save the MIDI data on the MPC when i attempt to do it the MPC plays back the notes BUT, the triton is on a000, so no settings and programs are saved just the MIDI notes......please Help...thanx in advance

on the mpc's main screen go to "pgm change" and press the orange window button, and now you will see the program change screen, it has
Bank select: off, ( turn this on)
MSB: 0, ( on the triton leave this at 0, for presets A-E)
LSB: 0, ( on the triton banks A-E = 0-4)

Now when you change the program # it will corespond with the triton.


Also you can go to the step edit page, cue to the correct time of the sequence that you want the program change to take place, press record and change the triton to the program that you want , the mpc will record that change.

ok i undestand that but is there a why to ahe the track im using come up in the mpc text wise.

No the mpc doesn't have that capability, I've only seen software sequencers (like sonar, or cubas) have the ability to do that. It would be nice if the mpc did that, I mean it wouldn't be hard to implement you would just have to load the instrument definitions, for that particular keyboard\sound module that you are using, into the mpc. Maybe we could ask for that in a future os update.

damn that was a good decoding of that post. I couldn't understand a word of it.

on your triton you can save the sounds you used as a template. Just make up a name on the triton that you can remember and save it as a template. so when you save what you did on the mp when you load it up again your same sound should be there. try it out and see if that works, it should. peace

yeah program changes saved my life, I used to load a track and do laps around the room setting all the settings up b4 I hit play.... now I just hit play!!!

what about with the fantom and the triton..

check your manual for the fantom, but I believe the fantom is
MSB: 87 ( for sounds) and 86 (for drum kits)
LSB: 64-70 ( banks A-G)

i thought with the program change you could only controll 128 sounds. what if you have more sounds in the trition. I have the extreme and I dont know but I think it has more banks than the original. and I really need that info for the fantom. so i can controll that bank thanx

Naw, you can control alot of different sounds, for example I have a triton classic, a roland varios, a roland xv5050, a emu proteus 2000 ( loaded with 18 banks of sounds) and I also control my software synths too. You have to read the documentation to see how to change the bank and the patch.
ex. MSB LSB
triton 0 0-4 ( banks a-e)
roland xv5050 87 64-71( banks a-h)
proteus 2000 7 0-3
4 0-7
15 0-3
66 0-1
roland varios (it only has 1 bank, so MSB and LSB doesn't apply).
