did you put any up for sale?

Yes I did, but people have more questions than money these days.

Just been chatting with Deck Daddy (Oslo Ensemble), a long time member here, who was interviewed in the SP1200 book as that is his main piece. His beats are tight on the SP1200 and really show what the machine can do. Check out his series of productions called SP SHIT, available for free DL.

It's a reissue with a poorly copied, poorly fitting faceplate, just look at the gaps around the buttons, and some of the lines. Really poor work there, almost criminal at the price. Makes Armens look like a discount store!

Cosmetically, it looks 'ok' from a distance, but the closer you look the worse it gets. I suppose if you compare it side by side with an original SP1200, the inaccuracies stand out like a sore thumb. The lettering and the lines are all over the place. Whoever did that should hang their head in shame. Its probably worth 50% of the start price, on a good day. The buy it now price is wishful thinking at its best.

styleflip SUCKS when it comes to skins for the SP1200 or SP12... their designs not only have improperly aligned text, but the SP12 one is also full of typos. i contacted them regarding fixing it and even designing them a PERFECT SP-12 replica [with the actual background design and exact replica of factory fonts] and they acted like a bunch of ignorant ****. not to mention they were pulling the old trick where every reply i got was some different person... as if they're such a HUGE company. i will never order anything from styleflip after my experiences of trying to reason with them and even offering them a free professionally done design. they said they were going to fix the typos last year and their website still has them. whatever.

I received a pic of this refurbished sp in my email..I was told they are starting to refurbish equiptment...Loopwhole beats ..and Lewis Parker..I don't know if they are working together or what..either way they both make nice boom bap ..and real nice with 10 seconds..
By Clint Thu Jul 11, 2013 3:28 pm
I don't know if that is a Styleflip skin, but whatever it is, its awful.

Asked the seller if it was a Styleflip due to the 'errors', he was naturally offended.

"there is plenty of interest in this SP! it says who did the custom on the listing me (Lewis Parker) and Loopwhole Beats".

Lewis Parker, well I never...

this is really going out of control. I've been wanting one for a whole year now, and prices have ONLY gone up. A question for the older folks: when, exactly, prices started to skyrocket? Im sure that like in 2000 or even around 2005 one of these wouldnt have cost much than 500$. Prolly its the internet that contributed to make this machine more iconic, and most of all, more known to the hollow ignorant youtube producers that back in the days couldnt be bothered buying magazines and reading album's booklets and such to gather info and maybe discovers what a 1200 or a 950 was... now even the most underground knowledge is being given for free to every 13 yo kiddo with a internet connection, there is no more meritocracy in what you can know, every assface newborn producers with money to waste want an sp and made so that they cost a fortune and that sucks big time under every aspect of it (yes, today im pissed)

Get an SP12 Turbo, in some ways it's better, and of course cheaper. Don't sit and watch for too long.

How much do you think the SP12/1200 was when it was new?

So I noticed, good thing you're not into analogue synths. SP1200 money is peanuts in comparison.

Yeah, if you HAD to have an original Minimoog, a Yamaha CS80 and a Roland Jupiter 8 it'd probably cost between 15 and 20 grand. Probably more if they were in decent condition.

1) wikipedia type info... people getting into production are finding out (or are able to) what type of gear is used by producers they love, or at the very least what is used for the genre they are into producing.

2) people back in the day who saw the SP in magazines, album covers and inserts, etc... they may actually be able to afford that nostalgic equipment now. (more disposable income)

3) resellers. people scooping up all the 1000-1500 dollar sp-1200s not to make music, but to sell for 2000 or 2500 dollars... those people often have the edge at scooping deals because they have the cash sitting around for that purpose. The same thing happened in the video game world...
this video can apply to anything:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp64RSfv1oM

4) hype and lots of it. Not saying it isn't warranted in a lot of cases... but it certainly is contributing to the demand either way....

these are a few things that allow point 3 to happen... which in turn encourages regular owners (people who aren't in it as a business) to value their gear at inflated prices... check craigslist for example..... people have a nerve on there. I still see stock 2000 classics for sale at 800 dollars. I have seen s3000xl machines for 350 stock (with expansions removed... additional 2-3 hundred if you want them left in the machine... ) 800 dollars for beaten space echos, 350 for kaoss pad 3s, 475 for sp-404sx... buy it now ebay type shit.

this is all IMO though..
