MIDI confusion set up

I have a MPC1000, Tascam DP24, Mininova and a laptop.

I want the MPC to be the master, however, I'm confused how to set up the midi connection between all of them so they're in sync.

I'm not sure if the DP24 should be the master as that's the multi-tracker so maybe it has higher priority?

Can anyone help please?.

The one that is doing the recording should be the MIDI master. With some multitrackers they only work right if they are the master. I am not sure if the Tascam is like that.
In any event once they are all locked in there shouldn't be a difference. I was taught to make either the recording unit the master or the one with the best resolution(PPQ).

so is it midi out to midi in on the MPC, then how would I connect the synth and keyboard to which ports respectively?.

This is what I do...

Multitracker (sounds being recorded here) MIDI MMC Master
This is also set to either SYNC track(you might not have this), Midiclock, or MTC
From the MIDI OUT port...

to the MIDI IN port on my keyboard.
Keyboard is set to receive (RX) Midiclock (or MTC or Syntrack)
Keyboard is set to MMC slave
Then from either the MIDI OUT or the MIDI THru

connect to the MIDI IN of the other device. Be it another Keyboard or sound module or MPC.
repeat making it the slave MMC.

Then I am not sure how you are connecting to your computer. Whether USB or MIDI port.



NOTE: You don't want to make a long midi chain of instruments beyond 6 or 7 devices. It might start to act up.

The MMC is just for controlling the START, STOP, FW, REW, REC

The midiclock, MTC or syntrack is for the time. These keep the machines in sync. There is also a Digital sync too. But you usually use either midi time or digital sync time not both together (Though the MMC is still being used even in a digital sync)

Make sure you connect audio cables for the sound. MIDI is not audio just data.

The beauty of the multiple midi ports on the MPC is that you don't get a degradation in the midi information flow. Plus you get to control various chains differently.

I would disagree with this statement, but I don't want to confuse the OP here. There is not always a device recording anything in a sync chain, so which is the master device then? The device which sets the tempo for others to follow should be the MASTER, all others are slaves. Thats it.
