PC suggestions for REN?

PC suggestions for REN?

I need to upgrade my PC, but dont want to spend more than I need.

Ive been running the REN through Windows XP, which is not suppoted, and it's started getting really buggy, crashing, cant update the OS.

SO, what do y'all think is a safe bet as far as RAM and such?
I know I will use a minimum of 4GB RAM, 500MB HD, solid processor, 64 bit,
but is it worth it to spend a couple extra bucks for....

6GB?
8GB?
16GB?

750MB HD?
crazy fast processor?

Any thoughts on Windows 8? It looks dumb, but ive never messed with it.
love windows 7.

Just trying to get a feel from other's experience. any issues, complaints, raves, etc.

You can fix Windows 8 so it works like Windows 7. Just go with Windows 8.

Something like this should be more than sufficient and even give you a little breathing room if you need to add more system intensive vsts.

If you want to save even further, you can go Core i3 but I've found them a little slow. I think the extra two gigs of ram on the system above, plus the faster processor are worth the extra hundred bucks.

min. 8 gig ram more is better... get a small ssd for the os (win7 or 8 ?)
and a larger hd for sample / libary ect ect...

You can change the start menu to match Win 7. :WTF:

Everything else looks damn near the same as Win 7.

For a 32 bit program 6 gigs is more than enough.

I would recommend

at least 16 gigs of ram

a i7 chip(people will tell you can get a i5 but trust me get the i7 )

hard drive, at lease 2 hard drives one for the O.S. and apps the other to store samples and Daw recordings

at lease one external Hd to backup important files
and a cheap video card with multi monitor outs.(to off load graphic duties away from the cpu)

at lease Win 7 pro 64bit.

if you have a little extra get a ssd as your main drive ,128gigs minimum .you can get them for under $100 bucks now.

and invest in a good power supply!!!!! people really under estimate the importance of clean stable power(reduced Hd corruption and a much more stable computer)

Looks like OS 1.4 is now 64 bit, right?

sometimes I load up the tracks with 3-4 VSTs each...several tracks, several sequences, tons of samples. So right now, Im using 3.0GHz Intel Core2 Duo, 320GB hard drive, 4GB memory and I can see that when Im all loaded up the CPU meter maxes out.

Perrin&Tonic, you're just going to have to hope that multi core support is added ASAP. Otherwise you'll always be stuck with only 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8 your available CPU power on Dual, Quad or 8 core CPU's.

So the 64 bit operation is great for loading huge patches (Omni, Kontakt, Mach 5 etc.). but your CPU is still under the gun with single core operation.

Those linked laptops look good for the prices. I would just check the maximum allowed RAM the motherboards will socket, it's unfortunately 8GB max on a lot of them, but 16GB would be something to look for as a max. RAM is so cheap nowadays might as well go for as much as possible.

But man, 16GB RAM? i7?...
Well in that case it's gonna be 12 MONTHS - SAME AS CASH! cha-ching! :lol:

Which, at the time was dope, but to upgrade it now, I gotta send it back to Austin and pay an arm and a leg, or have a local tech see if they can get under the hood...who knows?
Better just to buy a new laptop and save the DBeat as a 2nd piece for portable recording and such

Better than decent specs, hdd has to go but other than that it seems good.
